American Football In Sweden

Featured Replies

Don Markham, Hugh Wyatt and Mike Leach all coached overseas. It might of been Finland though. For a young or older coach (no kids or kids are grown) I think it would be an amazing experience

Sebastian Johansson, from Karlstad, Sweden, came to America to play high school football during his junior year as a foreign exchange student. He did so after playing club football and had a desire to play in America as a college player and a dream to play in the NFL. He is currently a 5th year senior at Marshall and will be a 3 year starter at LG. he has NFL size and strength. American football seems to be alive and well in Sweden.

Sebastian is 6'5" and 300lbs. He runs a 4.9 40 and his combine numbers would have had him in the top 3 linemen the past 2 years.

^^^

He also makes a mean meatball

That's awesome. I have a friend in Germany who plays American football over there. Would be neat to see foreign American football players to start playing over here like the NBA [spurs].

I agree. That would be pretty cool.

For the longest time Europe seemed resistant to take up American Football, it was just too American (sounds kinda odd??).

Would love to see it become popular enough to become an Olympic sport but that is DECADES away if it does happen.

I can't imagine how that would play out in the Olympics. Such a physical game would be hard to cram a tournament in thw Olympic time frame.

Honestly, it probably wouldn't. You are correct, with the short time frame, a few injuries could wipe out a country's team. Maybe someday would could have a world cup type competition. Or, like the Ryder Cup, the US versus the world.

There was an international league I read about at one point that had guys who weren't in the pros or on a college team with teams from a bunch of countries. The U.S. teams have annihilated just about all of them, oddly Japan has been #2 consistently in that league.

The US definitely annihilated teams in the 2011 tournament, but they went into double overtime in the match against Japan for the 2007 final game.

Still we host this year, so I'm looking forward to watching those games.
