Covington Catholic - Purses4APurpose

So I'm driving down the highway this evening and hear an advertisement for a benefit. It was purses4apurpose. They have teamed up to have a benefit for the Home Page - Aubrey Rose Foundation and for Covington Catholic High School. What? Am I missing something here?

Do we all remember this http://bluegrasspreps.com/ky-football-high/bengals-nfl-donate-285775.html. Yes, there was plenty of uproar over this from lots of people. But, after plenty of chit chat back and forth, pretty much, kudos was given to CCH for securing this donation. From the creativity of their group of booster workers/friends/parents or whomever was involved, that look for and find any type of way of getting donations and funds that are available to them or any school for that matter, if you apply for them, the Bengal donation was a huge get for their athletic program.

But now comes this. I'm sorry, but this doesn't pass the sniff test for me. Just take some time and look at the mission statement of Purses4APurpose. A small sample is " to help non-profits provide funds for research, services, programs or maybe even a place to live.". Ok, that is awesome and I commend them for doing this. We need more people and programs like this. So I can understand how Home Page - Aubrey Rose Foundation comes into play. But how does CovCath.org come into this?

I'm only asking because the way the have it listed on the web sites, is one cause benefits "families caring for children with life threatening illnesses with our focus being on the family unit" and the other is "The primary purpose of Covington Catholic High School is to embrace the gospel message of Jesus Christ in order to educate young men spiritually, academically, physically, and socially."

So it's to provide for families that can't afford "private education". Wow! I'm sure I will get hammered for posting this, but c'mon, CCH has to be better than this. Don't they?

Now, if anyone can help a fella out by explaining this and show me the light that I have completely taken this out of context, much appreciation will be shown. But if there isn't a good explanation, don't you think this is over the top? If there is one, maybe someone should list it in the "on Air" advertisement and even the web sites for us misguided people.

Just sayin!

I'll readily admit that I know zero about Puraes4aPurpose or the Aubrey Rose Foundation, but this is taken directly from the Aubrey Rose Foundation website:

"The Aubrey Rose Foundation will be honoring Aubrey’s life by...Awarding educational scholarships for children so that they can better themselves. In Aubrey’s three short years, she made a positive impact on many people. These scholarships will be based on how children have made an impact on the people around them."

Piecing things together here, I'm gonna go ahead and say this Purses4aPurpose dealio is a way to connect a charity whose mission statement prominently includes awarding educational scholarships with a school that provides a top notch quality of education. In other words, a Cov Cath Scholarship on behalf the Aubrey Rose Foundation.

Now that would make sense. If so, has CCH done this in the past? The way the whole thing is advertised with CCH's involvement sends a confusing message. Just strange to me.

Have they also partnered with Notre Dame Academy or do only boys get the benefit of this association?

I do not have the details in front of me, but I am almost certain that Aubrey's parents were at the St Pius X 8th grade promotion ceremony, presenting a scholarship to one of the girls who was graduating from Pius. I know that they said there was an application process that this young girl went thru, I know I was also very touched as the parents said that the organisation had given out something like 80 some odd scholarships to students from schools all over the tri-state. I also do not remember how many 8th grade ceremonies they said they had been to but it was a very large number.

Also, based on this from their website, it only looks like Cov Cath is allowing the event to be held there:

I don't know if they've every done anything exactly like this, but it's not all too irregular to partner with non-profits for scholarships. Here's a somewhat similar non-profit scholarship fund:

Kenny & Brian Williams

I'm not sure, but judging from the portion of the mission statement I quoted above, I don't see why the Aubrey Rose Foundation wouldn't partner with NDA or any other school if approached with the opportunity.

The Aubrey Rose Foundation is headed by a woman who works (or possibly worked) at CG&E / Cinergy / Duke. She is the mother of Aubrey and this is her foundation. I believe the connection with St Pius is the correct one and not sure if she has a son at Cov Cath.

It is a great foundation and does lots of great things. I can't imagine losing a child, but this woman has turned a tragic situation into a solid foundation and I totally support her and the foundation.

On a side note, the Brian Williams connection at Cov Cath is also related to CG&E and Cinergy.

That is a small community (CGE / Cinergy) so maybe that is where some of the connections come in to play. Either way, great gifts to many...
