South Warren Spartans vs 4A in 2015

I don't know how many teams will be able to match the aggression and physicality of South Warren next season. Speed for Tilgman made no difference when they played due to the aggressive nature of South Warren. I will say this though - I don't think that was a very good Tilgman team last year compared to their history. That will change for sure over the next few years. Rogers will develop his style and improve on the physicality part imo.

Was the team not good, or did the offense not fit them?

While I don't disagree with your sentiment 4A is now loaded with teams who have been unable to get over the hump.

Humps have been pared down considerably though.

From what I have seen the past two years the key to beating SW is on the line of scrimmage. Nothing more, nothing less.

All three of SW's losses have came to teams who simply physically handled them at the LOS, specifically against a SW offense that seemed to struggle when asked to sustain long drives against a solid front.

SW can go stride for stride with anyone when it comes to team speed... but in 3A they lacked the offensive and defensive line play to ever really get over the hump.

Tilghman was very, very small up front and lacked depth. That's why SW made short work of them in 2014. On the contrary, Central always has quality line play.

Just looking at the new 4A I think John Hardin will be a tough matchup with SW on the Western Side... and Johnson Central will be darn tough as well if they had to see them in Bowling Green.

For the new 4A's top contenders' biggest weaknesses:

South Warren- Never particularly good or big up front. Offense prone to turnovers when challenged.

John Hardin- Really struggles against disciplined teams who hold on to the football. Offense seems to lumber at time.

Johnson Central- Not very strong against the pass. Vulnerable when spread out without elite level team speed.

No knock on PT. They were just young - It seemed. They might have had some injuries going into that game. I think Coach Rogers will get the kinks ironed out. PT will be much improved. South will be hard to handle.

SW has too much Greenwood in them.

I don't ever remember Greenwood making it to a State Semi-Final, so your statement makes no sense... And what you don't realize is SW was created from a portion of Warren Central kids and Greenwood kids both. Not to mention the Franklin kids who transfer in... Combine that with the rapid rate they are building new houses in the SW district, and you have a student population unlike any other in Warren County. Their goal when building SW was to make it the BGHS of Warren County schools... They are not there yet bet they are headed in the right direction.

How old are you? Greenwood lost in the State Semi's to St. X 28-6 in 2009. And it was a closer game than that score. X would go on to beat Trinity for the Championship 34-10.

SW has too much Greenwood in them.

I think Greenwood has really improved in the last year. I thought I saw that they played Bowling Green pretty close last season. I think Greenwood would do well in many other 5A districts. They are just unfortunate to be in a very loaded district in the past imo.

Heard S. Warren is getting turf put in???

At some point it is likely that all Warren County schools will, but not yet for South Warren. Warren Central will have it next season. Warren East will the following year provided all plans are followed through on.

I think that South Warren will have a harder time in AAAA than they had the past season in AAA. If you recall the State Champ Belfry Pirates were shut out 35-0 vs Johnson Central in 2014.

Now Belfry was a little banged up that game, but to think South Warren will roll over a team like JC is ridiculous to me.

"Little banged up" was an understatement.

Belfry was literally missing half their starters including at least two All-State guys. I still think JC beats Belfry but with two healthy teams it is something along the lines of a 14-7 or 10-0 type of game.

With all that said though I agree on your point. Despite their regular season success it is clear South Warren wasn't quite on the level of a team like Belfry in 3A. Johnson Central has beaten Belfry something like 5 out of the past 6 years with a handful of those being convincing wins.

I really think people have been sleeping on just how good Johnson Central actually is. This is a program who probably has three or four trophies in their case at a minimum if this was the alignment they were in the past 10 years.

To me I still contend

1A. John Hardin

1B. Johnson Central

3. South Warren

We've talked about Johnson Central being hurt by the fact that their schedule simply doesn't prepare them to play teams that are near to their team or better than their team. I know the teams that typically beat them usually win it all or are typically better than JC is, but that doesn't make me think that now since H and CovCath have moved on that JC will easily win 4A now. If you wait until you get to the playoffs to test yourself, you are setting yourself up to not know how to respond once your really get punched in the mouth come deep into the playoffs.

Johnson Central's District has been their biggest hurdle. The "bizarre" games they have had to schedule against Canadian teams and far off programs is what people associate with them.

Johnson Central has played some top programs in their non-district.

Boyle County

Bell County

Belfry

Ironton, OH

Central

Then you include Ashland in their district essentially every year in addition.

This year JC will play Belfry, Ashland, and LexCath.

When you compare them to the other teams in the 4A alignment the only teams I see that has consistently played a schedule that you would call "Significantly Stronger" is John Hardin and to a lesser extent Collins. For all the buzz with South Warren their non-district schedule is exponentially weaker than what JC has played the past few years.

I don't disagree with this ATL, I just think JC has chosen to drive to Canada when all they had to do was go a county or two over and achieve what I think they were trying to do in the first place. In the playoffs, from my limited knowledge, I have not seen JC beat a team that I thought was ahead, even or just behind them. Until they do that, it's hard for a WKY person to really take them seriously deep in the playoffs.
