Not sure how anyone can predict what Newports team will do next year with so many question marks right now. Who would have thought Newport would have done as well as they did the last two season's when they hired a coach that no one ever heard of in Matt Schmidt. What if they do it again? Everyone is entitled to their opinion but I have never been a big fan of adults sitting behind a computer predicting the failure or lack of success of high school teenagers. I really hope the Wildcats move forward and build on the short success and culture change that Coach Schmidt brought to the program.

 

What most mean they lost a strong Senior class. It will probably be a rebuilding year.

First of all I'm not predicting the failure of success, all I said was with the KEY PLAYERS they lost it def will be a rebuilding year.

On paper I thought they still had a good nucleus returning. I think they will be pretty good.

They lose a majority of their oline, their qb, one if their key rb. Not sure really who they have coming back, but do know they lose some very valuable key players. Not knocking them, simply saying I don't see them having a winning season with that schedule. But again that's just my opinion.

Many of the threads on baseball, basketball, football , predict outcomes of games, seasons , etc. So for you to not like open prediction discussions on sports ? Not sure ? I see bluegrass preps as always having discussions on current events in high school programs. That being said ..I mentioned the struggles the first year out of the gate and so late , with lack of having a coach . Nothing negative was meant by it . Just my opinion ! I have no problem with open prediction discussions on sports. It just doesn't feel right to me predicting that a high school athlete/team will lack success or fail. But as I said, that's just me. Very rarely have I ever posted in a prediction thread on High School games. As a Dad who had boys play high school sports, I know how much hard work, effort and dedication they put into football and I never would tell them they wouldn't win or succeed before they actually played the game let alone start the season.

It was wonderful to see Newport have such a great season last year. It is good for the district to have another team that is a threat to win the region and compete with some of the bigger schools. I hope they are able to sustain the momentum this season and play at the same level. I do know that they graduated a strong group of football players and the off-field distractions certainly aren't helpful. With the new turf and coming off a regional-final season, I hope for another great year for the Wildcats.

6 weeks away from the 1st game, any news of a coach? Is there a chance Schmitz will be brought back?

I know they are in the interviewing stage because one guy was told he didn't make the list of guys that would be interviewed. I heard they did a round of phone interviews and now face to face interviews.
