May 7, 201511 yr They may be able to create and interchange parts until the cows come home, but until we can duplicate the parallel chemical computation capability of brain functionality, increasing the life span is torture, not beneficial. From what I've read, and I'm no expert, we're just scratching the surface of technology of the human brain. It's not the speed. Computers can do many tasks much faster then the brain. The chemical processes of the brain are very much slower than the electrical ones of a computer or server farm. It's the parallelism. The brain does millions of computations and makes millions of decisions, based on those computations, simultaneously, all in that 3 lb hunk of grey matter. That's the problem. The closest thing that our species has created who's functionality remotely resembles the functionality of the human brain is, oddly enough, the internet. So we need to condense the World Wide Web into a devise smaller than a cantaloupe and make it function more efficiently. I can't even wrap my mind around that, so to speak.
May 11, 201511 yr An evolution question in honor of mom's on mothers day. If evolution is for real, why do mom's still only have two hands? Just wondering. :idunno:
May 15, 201511 yr Humans are taller, live longer, races are integrating... so, in 50k years...move the basketball rims to 13'?
May 18, 201511 yr The signs of related-ness are present in the DNA of humans. DNA Proves Evolution | Eveloce Some say, as the article does, that the DNA elements 'prove' evolution happens. Evolution is based on 'genetic engineering'. It is viewed as 'natural' genetic engineering. But we do know that nature does not have the monopoly on the genetic engineering - man currently reworks the genetics of various species. So we know that change is not solely done by nature. Also the slow, ever evolving changes are not conclusively proven. There is a view that the changes happen much more quickly and only periodically in more radical fashion. If this is the case could it be an outside entity - God? or could it be in response to sudden change in environment like ice ages? Or maybe some other entity who likes to tinker with life forms - the Engineers of the movie Prometheus, or the Anunnaki who supposedly drop in via the rogue planet of Niribu every 3,500 years or so. Relatedness and change seem to be unchallengable but what drives the change should not be considered settled science.
May 19, 201511 yr According to Wikipedia, 99% of all species that ever lived on earth are now extinct. There are currently an estimated 14 million species of life on the planet. That means there's already been many millions of species that have evolved, flourished, and then left the scene forever. And all this long before humans ever made their appearance. The modern form of humans as we know it has only been around for about 200,000 years, and civilization as we know it has only been around for 6,000 years. We're virtually newcomers to the party in the history of all species. Have they evolved into new species, or have that many been wiped out for whatever reason?
May 20, 201511 yr One of the last church services I attended featured a spirited sermon on evolution. The pastor was clear and to the point: "Evolution is a lie." Pretty much the same message I've heard at all the churches I've attended since childhood. So there you have it. Evolution is a lie.
May 26, 201511 yr Author One of the last church services I attended featured a spirited sermon on evolution. The pastor was clear and to the point: "Evolution is a lie." Pretty much the same message I've heard at all the churches I've attended since childhood. So there you have it. Evolution is a lie. Did you even read the thread title? And just because one pastor one time said one thing, that does not make it true/nor does that make it that specific Church's stance.
