April 23, 201511 yr Author How's things looking for the Bowling Green area? We should see showers and possible thunderstorms overnight into Saturday morning. The main severe threat now looks to be Saturday afternoon. The main threat area seems to be central Kentucky south of a line from around Louisville through Richmond. The main threat from these storms looks to be large and damaging hail, damaging winds and tornadoes. I'll update this evening as soon as I can. More than likely I'll be going into severe weather threat mode then. Take care and prepare now for these possible storms on Saturday. Convection outlook for Saturday afternoon Probability outlook
April 24, 201511 yr Author The severe thunderstorms are expected to form Saturday afternoon. Very large hail, damaging winds and tornadoes are possible. The enhanced area has expanded slightly since this morning. Cities in the area are Owensboro, Bowling Green and Paducah. In the slight chance area are Louisville, Lexington, and parts of southeast Kentucky. I think I'm going to wait until morning before I got into severe weather thread mode. I may still do it tonight if more info comes in. Convection Outlook Probabilistic outlook
April 25, 201511 yr Author I've decided to go ahead and issue my severe weather threat mode for Saturday afternoon. As of now the main threat area seems to be south of I-64. The possible timing is between 1-9 pm. All modes of severe weather is possible Saturday afternoon. Tornadoes, very large hail, wind damage and flooding. I'll post an update in the morning.
April 25, 201511 yr I was reading earlier that the positioning of the warm front is key on this one... Some are saying the possibility of BASEBALL size hail is not out of the question along the warm front tomorrow afternoon.
April 25, 201511 yr Author Saturday morning update: The potential seems to be growing for severe weather for parts of Kentucky this afternoon into the overnight hours. What is most concerning to me is that the large hail and possibility of a few tornadoes has grown. According to the NWS-Louisville office, there is a swath of Kentucky that has the greatest potential to see tornadoes. Cities included in this area are Owensboro, Elizabethtown, Campbellsville, Stanton, London. Areas south of this swath has the greatest risk of seeing severe storms. This area is from just north of the Cumberland Parkway towards the south. This includes the Bowling Green area. I have already warned my children in Bowling Green to be on watch this afternoon. All of the above areas are in the Enhanced area for the possibility of severe storms. This means numerous severe storms are possible. They maybe more persistent and widespread and a few intense. A few tornadoes, several reports of wind damage and hail 1-2" in diameter are possible. Areas north of the ones I mentioned above are in the slight risk category. This means scattered severe storms are possible. These likely will be short lived and not widespread. A few intense storms are possible. One or two tornadoes, wind damage and hail 1" in diameter with locally reports of some up to 2". Now if the warm front moves further north then all of this quite possibly could shift to the north. So everyone should stay weather aware this afternoon into the overnight hours. Of course I will be back with updates throughout the day when the information warrants it. I have alert areas set up for most of the areas involved so if any watches or warnings are issued I will start a new thread. Stay weather aware today. Tornado Hail Wind This is the thunderstorm outlook for around 4 pm Saturday afternoon. Edited April 25, 201511 yr by nWo
