Ohio State 2016 class (Shaping up to be a good one)

Featured Replies

So NC fan and John Anthony, what do you think about OSU next year? I heard that Vegas is saying that the top 5 teams next year (pre-season) are Clemson, Bama, Baylor, Oklahoma and Michigan.

I was very surprised that OSU was not in the top 5. Behind Michigan?

What do you guys think??

I know that you weren't asking me, but I feel like answering anyways. But honestly if Ohio State was ranked ahead of any of those teams, it would be based on the fact that they are Ohio State. The only player they have on offense who has proven anything is JT Barrett and the only player on defense is Raekwon McMillan. They are going to probably have 15 players drafted this year. That is absolutely crazy. But with that said, they were afforded the luxury of being able to redshirt 80% of their freshmen class last year. They'll be fine and should be in contention the whole year for a playoff birth, but at this moment with all that Ohio State lost this year and what seemingly everyone else is bringing back, you'd be crazy to put an unproven Buckeye team ahead of them. I would compare them to the Clemson team this year. One of the youngest teams in the country, but have great talent that hadn't the opportunity to showcase themselves yet. If you look at the preseason rankings from this past year though, Clemson was no where near the top 10 and OU wasn't even in some preseason top 25's. All preseason polls tell you is which good teams are returning the most starters.

Ratings before the season start mean nothing, though they are fun to talk about.

Michigan will be lucky to be third in the Big Ten.

Mike Weber looked very strong in bowl practices. I think we're good at RB, we just have to see who steps up at WR. We will have a few track stars out there but no experience. The Noah Brown injury hurt a ton. He had so much hype in fall camp, we have to see what he is.

Defense looks pretty solid, especially, if the young safety's step up. Hubbard, Lewis, Cornell and Bosa at DE, will cause a lot of problems. As you said Kwon is back with 2 years of experience, now we will see Jerome Baker, Justin Hilliard, Nick Conner.

It will be a fun year but I agree with you more of a show case of what these young sophomores could become.

I'm sure Urban is pumped for this next season. Loves to play the no one believes in you card.

That's the other thing this group is ready for "their turn."

Recruiting news... Maryland has now offered two other QB's.

Ohio State is bringing in a surprise 5 star recruit, #1 ranked athlete Mecole Hardman from GA this weekend for a visit.

2016 the surprise 5 star kid, Mecole Hardman.

At least one of the QBs was 2016, 3 star kids. Clearly, Maryland knows he isn't coming.

Wow. The successor, knock on wood, to JT and a surprise late visit from a big time player. Urban's feeling himself right now.

With all the "Nick Saban" is the greatest coach ever (and he is great) talk the last couple of days, I think people are forgetting just how great a coach Urban is. As long as he is there IMO, OSU will be a top 5 program just about every year. 50-4 at OSU in his four years...crazy! 154-27 career record is crazy as well. The guy just wins. In Urban I trust...

Haskins is special, I really hope we get him. Would be the best pocket passer at OSU in a long time.

Haskins has officially cancelled his trip to LSU.

Huge news!

OSU is also going to hire former LSU OC and Maryland Oline coach, Greg Studrawa as its Oline coach.

Meyer flipped Keandre Jones a 4 star LB committed to Maryland. That's a big flip, that we knew could but wasn't sure would happen.
