Upstate N.Y. School Apologizes For Reciting Pledge Of Allegiance In Arabic

Featured Replies

Sorry, I did not see a statement in the article that said it was recited in different languages. It was only recited in Arabic. I read it twice to be sure.

Well dang Clyde, I just read it again and I DID see it! Wow am I embarrassed.

I do have a small excuse though. I've had surgery to repair a detached retina and am still having sight issues but I still should have not missed that info in the article.

Aging stinks. Trust me.

IMO I think it is a disgrace. Pretty soon all you poor people who go along with the sheep to the slaughter for trying so hard to appease and be so politically correct will be responsible for the loss of the American culture and what our grandparents, dads, fought for. I'm sure our soldiers who died fighting the Taliban or any other Islamic terrorist would really appreciate hearing ONE Nation under Allah instead of God. Really pathetic. I would hope my kid would raise immortal hell over this if he had to hear that garbage.

This former soldier has no problems with it. Especially when you consider other languages are being used as well. I like learning and appreciating other cultures and language falls under that. FYI allah means god.

One of the (few) things I remember vividly about junior high school was doing a "World Religions" unit in a history class. Each student had to write a report on a branch of religion/denomination; they were drawn out of a hat. I got one of the biggies - Zoroastrianism.

I cannot recall a single student or parent getting offended over the project. Maybe we all just got along better back in the day.

At this point who don't know what Allah means. And they also kill in the name of Allah. They also don't believe in Jesus as Gods son, so therefore it's a false religion to me.

It's not fine with me, we are not one nation under Allah. I guess you would be ok when the satanist lead the pledge with one nation under Lucifer.

Learning about it and having it shoved down our throat and putting Alllah instead of God is different.

No twitter or facebook back then. I wonder how much social media and major news networks play in this.

Lol oh no someone doesn't like it when other religions are included.

I guess you missed this part.

The district said the school’s foreign language department arranged to have the pledge recited in different languages for National Foreign Language Week, which was last week.

Andrew Zink, the senior class president, usually gives the morning announcements and recites the pledge. He said he allowed an Arabic-speaking student to handle the pledge duties Wednesday.

“The intention was to promote the fact that those who speak a language other than English still pledge to salute this great country,” the district said in its statement.

“Had it been done in Spanish first or Japanese first, we wouldn’t be having this conversation today,” Principal Aaron Hopmayer told Young.

They also didn't have to say allah. Just like how I didn't say god when singing the pledge.

I didn't miss anything. I don't care if it's foreign crap hole day, you don't take God out of it and say Allah.

Yeah, especially a false religion.

Yeah, especially a false religion.

So how are you any better than anyone else trying to exclude any other religion but their own?

I believe that Jesus Christ was Gods son and died for us all. Islam doesn't.

If they want to pray 5 times a day to a false religion, that's their problem.

I don't see too many Christians now days going around cutting off heads of someone who doesn't denounce Islam and convert to Christianity. But then again they do it in the name of Allah, who most on here see no problem in replacing God.

Hate to break to you MTN REF, but your religion doesn't take precedent over others in America. All religion is to be treated equally in the US. I see no difference between you and anyone else wanting their religion being top dog. Also, maybe some people on here have no problem with allah replacing god is because it was national foreign language week, showcasing that there are americans that possess a language other than english showing respect to the pledge of allegiance.

IMO my religion does take precedent because I feel mine is the only way to heaven.

Is it wrong to think that.

I will never be ok with substituting the name of God for a fake.

Some things you don't change and political correctness isn't always the answer.

Neither do Jews, is Judaism a full religion also?
