Doss 65 Bullitt East 61 (6th Region Semifinals)

Featured Replies

Final. Seemed to be some question to a last attempt by Bullitt East.

Doss will take on the winner of Fern Creek-Desales.

Sounded like a good, hard fought game. Close throughout.

Sharpe was knocked to the ground on a 3 at the end & was being treated by trainers for a concussion ..no foul called ..might not of mattered but there would have been time on the clock & 3 free throws ..

East also had to play without starter Klefot who was injured early in the game .

I was at the game and I do not think the play at the end was significant to the outcome. Doss was up 4 and Bullitt East had tried a three point attempt with less than 5 seconds to go in OT and it was a long rebound that Tyler chased down and shot at the buzzer when it looked like when he landed he got tangled up with a Doss player who should not have even been challenging the shot.

Bullitt East did have a chance (actually 2 chances) to win the game in regulation. With less than 20 seconds they had the ball and were trying to hold it for one shot. They should have kept the ball in the hands of Sharpe or perhaps Rakes the last few seconds before running a play, but an undersized freshmen who had just been inserted ended up with the ball and he was just overpowered on the sideline when he picked up his dribble. It was a bad position to put the young man who will be a very good player in time. The defender got right up on him and snatched it away. But Doss was soon after called for a charging foul with 3 seconds left as they attempted a layup to win the game. Sharpe then received the ball on the inbounds and dribbled it over half court to get a really good 3 point shot off that just missed at the buzzer.

Thanks for pointing this huge fact out...Losing Klefot early in the game was a pretty big deal. East has a shallow bench, with no one having the type of game that Klefot has. He is a versatile 6'4 wing, who plays at the top of the zone that East usually plays, he really harasses the guards out top with his movement and wingspan. Actually he is the key player to they're zone defense! He is usually good for 10-15 pts. a game, and 6 or more boards. This was a very unfortunate blow for the kid and East. I have to believe that this game may have had a different outcome.

I was following on twitter, Jason Frakes tweeted that Klefot came back in the game.

Glad u brought up the play at the end of regulation, with the ball in the hands of the BE freshman... With about 18 seconds left he got trapped on the sidelines pretty much in front of his own bench. My question is..."Did East have a timeout left to take?" If so, it was a No-Brainer of a call to make by the coach who was standing right there. There was time to call it before the steal occurred. After the game a few people said that East had no timeouts remaining....But I personally talked to a score keeper who said that in the overtime East had 2 timeouts to take, which would mean they had 1 left in regulation. I would really like to know the truth concerning this question!!!

He did come back in twice, but could not compete at a level. So they would take him right back out. My guess is he told the coaches he could, so they tried.

Someone correct me if I am wrong... But this will be the first year since reorganization of the Louisville regions that it hasn't been PRP/East final. I believe East will be a lot better team next year with who they have returning.

That is very true, I was thinking to myself at the time he picked up his dribble that he or the coach should call a timeout. It did happen only a few feet from their bench. I was sitting right behind the bench and ironically the Doss Coach then called an ill advised timeout after they snatched it away or they would have converted an easy layup. During that time out the Bullitt East Coach looked at the young freshman and clearly told the young man that it was his (coaches) fault. I was unsure if he was saying so because he should have called time out or just putting the kid in that situation.

Not correct. 2006 was the first year that Bullitt Co schools were moved to the 6th. Also PRP beat east in 2013 regional semi final.

I was thinking East was added to 6th when Jtown, Fern Creek, and Moore was added... which happened to be the same year High School Basketball became relevant to me again...

They were moved originally in 06 and placed in 24th district with Fairdale, Southern, North Bullitt, and Bullitt Central. When the regions were changed again East was moved in the district they are currently in.
