Mayfieldsportsfan Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 Jack Morris the former head coach of Mayfield has been selected for the National High School Athletic Coaches Association Hall of Fame. Morris is already a member of the Kentucky Hall of fame. Morris' Mayfield teams won Class 2A state championships in 1977, 78, 85 and 86 and made title game appearances in 1976, 87, 89, 91 and 92. Morris posted an overall record of 254-50-2 in 24 years at Mayfield. The Cardinals never had a losing season and never lost more than four games in a year. The worst season record of a Morris coached team was 6-4 in 1973. Since leaving the head coaching ranks, Morris has helped on the staffs of his son, coaching with David at Mercer County in the 1990's and currently a part of Joe Morris' Mayfield staff. Congrats to Coach Jack.
stick1 Posted April 21, 2006 Posted April 21, 2006 That is a big feat. He crushed my playing dreams beating us in the final four by 3 but I have the upmost respect for him and what he accomplished! Congrats to him and the Mayfield family, I know that means a lot to everyone in the community there.
leatherneck Posted April 21, 2006 Posted April 21, 2006 That's fantastic. Congrats to Coach Morris and the entire Mayfield community.
Toothpick Posted April 21, 2006 Posted April 21, 2006 The local paper, The Mayfield Messenger, had a nice front page article on the ole Coach. Coach Morris will be a part of the 11Th enductee class and the ceremony will be held in June in Branson, MO. Amazingly, he averaged over 10 and a half wins a season and made it to state title game 9 times or 37.5% of the time. Morris numbers speak volumes, the coach was one of the states all time greatest
Hatz Posted April 21, 2006 Posted April 21, 2006 He's well deserving of the honor and a class act. :thumb: Those epic battles with the Admirals in the late 80's and early 90's were examples of what you expect in a state final. If his teams had a few more breaks he could well be sitting on at least 4 more state titles from those years and from that first Corbin-Mayfield clash.
