Bengals Wishlist for NFL Free Agency

Featured Replies

Free agency is a time when some teams attempt to rebuild, and a time that other teams ignore for the most part. The Bengals have been one of the latter, but I don't personally want that to be the case this offseason. I'm certainly not saying we should go out guns blazing like the 2014 Tampa Bay Buccaneers or 2013 Miami Dolphins, but rather sign some guys who are flying under the radar or maybe even that one guy who can just make all the difference in the world.

Here's some of my guys. I'm ordering them by position, not by the order of importance. Also of note, by no means should we sign all of these guys, but rather if we can nab even 1 or 2 of them, I'd be pleased.

Interesting article if you are a Bengals fan.

No Jacoby Jones?

No Jacoby Jones?

I don't think it covered special teams.

Hue Jackson wants a good run blocking TE.

I took another look at the article and did not see any mention of special teams one way or another. Offensively, J. Jones would be considered part of the WR mix too.

Only in a pinch.

Only in a pinch.

I went to the NFL website and compared stats with Tate and Adam Jones. His WR stats were very close to Tate. He was the #2 KR in the NFL (A. Jones #7 , Tate #2 9). He was the #9 PR in the NFL (A. Jones #11 , Tate #2 5). I would have no problem dropping Tate for J. Jones. If Bengals keep A. Jones as PR and KR and find other CB help, I would take that and Bengals would not need J. Jones. In any scenario, I don't see any reason for keeping Tate. He makes the occasional good play, but he doesn't appear "reckless" enough for me.

Let's play fill in the blank. The Bengals used Tate in the WR mix only in a ________ ?

Well, you used "a" instead of "an", so it can't be "emergency" or any word beginning with a vowel. I will answer with a phrase "fit of desperation whenever A.J. Green was unavailable which was a lot in 2014".

Blowout!

As for offensive side of the ball:

Mallett or Locker? I hate Dalton as much as the next guy, but come on. They ain't taking his job.

Harry Douglas wouldn't be a bad signing. He's shown he can be a reliable #2 guy. When White and Jones were injured for Atlanta, he put up good number as a #1 for Matt Ryan.

A #2 TE is a necessity. I'd take Casey over Fasano but I'm not crazy about either.

My thinking is either of those QBs would be a back up but a lot of that depends on what the Bengals think of McCarron.

I am thinking Douglas could be a solid #3 for the Bengals but I am not sold on adding WRs unless it is at our price.

I agree we have to do something at TE, and I agree on Casey and like the fact that he has FB experience.

Patriots just told big Vince he was gonna be let go. He's 33, any interest from the Bengals?

I know I sound like a broken record but only if the price is right and that would be as a stopgap only. So probably not.
