7th Region draw at noon Saturday

One thing I don't like about having the regionals together is that the champions aren't allowed to cut down the nets, they are given a net with the trophy.

That's a terrible way to promote the kids in those regions. They should separate those two regions and play at one venue for each region. Just my opinion

If you'd like to give a call to the JCPS athletic director, there are a number of us who'd be very grateful.

I agree. I've never understood why they do it the way they do.

Why doesn't the Bullitt County schools have any say in the matter? Are all the decisions made by the JCPS AD?

Having it at Valley is probably just fine by the Bullitt folks. It's way closer to them than when the Sixth was played in downtown Louisville.

The Bullitt schcools really don't have a say and they would love to get out of the Jefferson County region.

I could see that being the case for North & Central, but not so sure about Bullitt East. Bullitt East has shown to be very competitive and actually has won their district 6 consecutive years now with a trip to Rupp in both 2011 & 2012. It seems to be working okay for them. Now for both North Bullitt and Bullitt Central I could see the desire to get out of a competitive 6th region into another that gives them a better chance. However, both North & Central are in the 23rd district with 2 Jefferson County schools that typically are not regarded as the elite basketball programs of the region, so they at least have good chances to get to the regional tournament.

What does different venues have to do with "promoting the kids?" I guess you can argue about having to go to Valley, but why do you need two different venues when the games aren't overlapping (other than the quarterfinals)? And it's not like Louisville is crawling with suitable venues for a regional tournament. I think fans here are used to them both being in one place. It's what works for Louisville.

If there were 4 quarterfinal games at the same venue on the same day; media members, fans and coaches could watch all 8 teams play. Since they are at 4 different venues simultaneously folks can only choose 1 game. To me, it doesn't make much sense but if that's what works in Louisville, then that's great.

The Bullitt schools wanting out of the region is not just about basketball. It concerns all sports and the lack of revenue generated from gate money when a majority of their games have to be played against reginal opponents. The AD's and coaches of all sports are looked at as outsiders and get out voted on just about everything. For North and Central it has actually improved their chances in every sport to win district championships, but it is not an even playing field when you get deep into the region with open enrollment in Jefferson County.

That's actually how they used to do it until a couple of years ago, when they decided to reward the district winner with a home game in the quarterfinals. I think both ways have merit. Pretty sure the schools voted to change it to the current format.

That makes sense to me!

I'm glad you said that because that is one question I had...did the schools want it that way or did the powers that be just make it that way. I wouldn't say that I have a problem with it, but I was curious to know why it's like that.

I can assure you that it wasn't voted on by the schools. Not sure of the make up, but the 6th / 7th region policy board consisting of mostly JCPS athletic directors and maybe 1 Bullitt AD allegedly make decisions. JCPS director of athletics is some kind of defacto member, but makes all of the decisions. I'm sure money was the reason for the change.
