UKMustangFan Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 Xavier falls just short in MSG. I would love to see this X team with a good coach.
Bengal Maniac Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 Tough one for X. They need to win the next two to get in, I believe. Won't be easy.
gametime Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 Xavier falls just short in MSG. I would love to see this X team with a good coach. Wooden couldn't get this X team to be better on defense. They are slow across the board and simply not capable of getting stops over 40 minutes. That's the reality of going with offense over defense on the recruiting trail...

Bengal Maniac Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 Win @Creighton and they should be safe... As I said, not easy.
gametime Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 As I said, not easy. Never easy winning on Senior Day for the opponent. Still, Creighton is by far the worst team in the league and if X wants to make sure they have a bid they can't afford that one...
HT721 Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 Win @Creighton and they should be safe... Depends on who they play first in NYC, can't have a first game bad loss there either.

HT721 Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 (edited) Creighton is the only resume killer in the conference. The other 8 do very little damage... Losing 3 of your last four with what would the. Be an rpi in 40's is not where I'd want to be sitting on selection Sunday. Especially say it's SJU again, with three losses committee might take them instead of X. Edited February 24, 2015 by HT721

D at least allowed a low number of points. By your reasoning the offense should have been enough to win this one.

St John's beat X 14-0 in fast break points. X had a poor shooting night, turned it over 20 times and still only lost by 1. Mainly because they are simply too slow to run with a SJU team that runs half court offense on the level of a poor 14U AAU team...

The bolded, along with allowing only 58 points, actually points toward a solid defensive night. If you turn the ball over 20 times, you are going to give up some fast-break points. X is bad defensively, I'm just not sure this game is such a good example of that. I have no idea what St. John's averages per contest on the year or in conference play. those numbers could put this in better perspective, possibly.
gametime Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 Lunardi says X is not on the bubble. You can count the number of 14 loss teams that have made the tournament on one hand. That's all time. Beat Creighton and there is no question they are in. Lose that one and don't win the BE Tournament? I wouldn't feel good about that when the field was announced if I was X...
