Is practicing allowed when school is canceled?

Depends on where you live. In some school districts practice is allowed. In others it isn't.

Kenton Co is typically the same. They will decide around 1pm if evening activities can go on or if they are cancelled.

Some school districts make blanket policies to where if school is cancelled then no other activities can go on. But in this day of predictive school attendance, it's kind of silly. School systems will often cancel school in anticipation of a big snowfall or other weather precipitation, then nothing happens or its far less than predicted. In that light, canceling a game/practice when the roads are actually clear is, for all intents and purposes, committing your sports team to failure. Just because the roads are a mess at 6am doesn't mean they will be at 4pm (when buses often leave for road games).

In some districts playing games on off-school days is an insurance issue.

 

No school, no insurance - no buses. Others turn their heat down on snow days, especially if it coincides with a weekend. Plowing parking lots factors in.

I don't think Kenton Co schools have been allowed to do anything since last Saturday. No games, or practices for almost a week.
