Heard today from a friend of mine who coaches in the mountains that the new Harlan Co coach had school buy out of the Belfry and Johnson Cent Contracts to pick up 2 other teams, not sure who they are.

 

He was kind of shocked that Harlan County would put 2 other teams in that shape this yr considering it is so late in the season to start looking for games.

 

He had a few choice words for what he thought, some not allowed to say.

Pretty bad when you leave 2 teams stuck like that right before spring.

I'll play Devil's Advocate and can sympathize with their reasoning. I honestly think that a lot of the HC struggles began with a schedule that was too difficult. HC had sky high hopes and took it on the chin a couple times and suddenly attitudes and team cohesion seemed to waiver.I also can't blame a Coach if he has a plan for his program and it heavily involves how he schedules. Creech is the Head Man now and whether he took over in December or February he should schedule how he sees fit.

 

With that said.. if you are going to shift your schedule and try to soften it up you have other places to do it. This is two huge gates and two measuring stick games. In addition these are two programs that will be there every year at the top of EKY. You may burn a bridge now to help build your program back..but once HC returns to prominence and you need to play the big boys to take the next step now you may not have that ability to get either program back.

 

If HC replaces these two with a much weaker game I think I turn a cautious eye if I am a HC supporter.

I'd guess Perry's schedule is already full. I know Bell County has been feeling around for games since McCreary Central dropped out of district play. I'm guessing a few other teams might be available. Still though, this is a bad look for Harlan County.

It is all the new coach's call on this, the princiapl is a woman who knows nothing about sports from what Ive been told so she is just doing what her new coach wants.

We have yet to receive any type of official paper work or verbal acknowledgement stating that our game has been cancelled. It may be imminent but as of now it is down on our books to be played.

Who would they get to play at this point? I'm sure Highlands needs a game. There isn't anybody better to schedule out there.
