Wow!!

This game was pretty good game for the first half. Scott made some nice shots and kept it close in the first half. Think the score at half was 29-22. (not great with the stats tonight cause I was talking the whole game!). HHS broke it open in the third with some defense and good shooting. Lydia Graves has a monster game. Zoie Barth also had a nice game and the Birds did play with a lot more energy tonight. (thank goodness!).

 

Scott has some nice players. I do question some of the things they do as a team. Seems like they have a lot of talent in Kallmeyer, Trimpe and Clephane, they have some nice shooters and the Stapleton girl is smooth and fun to watch. One thing I haven't understood in the last two years is the under utilization of Tori Dant. She seems to always bring the energy level up when she enters the game and also the physicality.

 

I did get to meet Dozer and hung with DG21 all night.

 

Good luck to the Eagles. I'm sure they'll bounce back. Way to go Birds!

The Highlands Ladybirds basketball team recorded an impressive home victory Monday after surviving a rough performance Saturday.

Highlands moved to 19-3 overall with a 61-34 win over the Scott Lady Eagles (15-7) in Fort Thomas. The Ladybirds have won two in a row as a result. Both wins came without junior post McKenzie Leigh, who is still recovering from a tough fall in Thursday’s loss to Holmes.

Senior Lydia Graves had another big game with a double-double of 17 points and 12 rebounds. She made all three three-point tries and 7-of-9 shots total to go with two assists.

Zoie Barth added 15 points with Alex Combs and Brianna Adler scoring nine each for the Ladybirds. Barth made all four free-throw tries.

Scott saw just one player reach double figures. That was Alexis Stapleton with 12 points.

Highlands had 11 assists to two for Scott. Adler led the Ladybirds with three assists.

Scott also had 16 turnovers to nine for Highlands. The Ladybirds had 13 steals led by five from Combs to just four for the Lady Eagles. Highlands outscored Scott, 21-2 in points off turnovers.

Highlands made 22-of-50 shots for 44 percent, including 7-of-14 for 50 percent from three-point land. The Ladybirds also made 10-of-14 free throws for 71 percent.

Scott hit just 13-of-45 shots for 29 percent, including 2-of-13 three-point tries for 15 percent. The Lady Eagles also hit 6-of-9 free throws for 67 percent.

Highlands plays host to Bracken County on Tuesday. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

Same here. Thought that it must have been against Bracken with that score, but thats next game.

Surprised by the margin of this one. When the birds play tough defense they are as good as anybody. Can't wait to see it all unfold come tournament time.

This doesn't surprise me, I did think with Leigh out it would have been a little closer but Highlands just has way to much for Scott to contend with. Scott has a good team no Knock on them Highlnds is just really good and after a let down game prior, well it wasn't going to happen again to many girls on that team are competitors.

I agree with this. I do think they have a ton of potential.

Nice to see. I know a couple of weeks left until districts, but I always like the team that heads into tournament time with a head of steam.

Agreeing with RC this was definitely a game of 2 halves. I am sure I'll take crap for this but at halftime (27-19) Eagles had the Birds right where I felt the Eagles needed to be. Coming off the Conner game I felt they would go for the kill quickly and if the Eagles could weather the storm (within 10 and on the plus side of the foul count) then they would be in the hunt at the end. To my point the Eagles came out in the 2nd half and quickly cut the lead to under 5. And then the wheels came off. Kallmeyer, who was lights out (scoring 9pts) in the 1st half only took 2 shots the entire 2nd half.
