I don't know how upset I would get over him not getting her name right. He's an 80 year old man. I don't know about any of you all, but my grandfather is around that age and he will get a few of us grandson's names mixed up when talking to us all of the time. Congrats to Maci. She is one heck of a high school basketball player & I expect her to be the same wearing that same shade of blue in college.

Kentucky's biggest problem with boys when it comes to top end talent is having them poached away by larger prep schools. Rajon Rondo, DeAngelo Russell, Dakari Johnson. Add them to what Kentucky has and it's probably a different story.

It's still girls basketball in a lot of peoples eyes and that's all you can really say. It's the mens NCAA tourney compared to the women. No difference.

 

I agree about the big time boys talent. People are in complete denial if they think this is a basketball state in terms in talent. It's a basketball state in terms of the love it has, but not in talent.

I have to agree with you. It seems like girls Basketball is a second class citizen vs. boys. I was in a conversation this week about the Holy Cross team winning state and was basically told (I am paraphrasing here)...that it doesn't count because they are girls. My face turned red and I had to walk away.

 

It is, and it probably always will be. Just like I mentioned in my above post-------it's just not that important to most people. The speed, the athleticism, the strength, etc. is nowhere near what the boys game has.

 

My face would have gotten red as well. It's important. It's just not as important as the boys to most.

 

This is for a totally different thread, but I think girls fast pitch softball is every bit as exciting as baseball to most people.

 

Let's just look at what makes basketball exciting to most of us. It's the speed of the game. Their strength. Some dunks here and there depending on which parts of the state you are in. It's the passing (and, the strength to be able to make some of the wow type passes).

 

It won't ever be on the same level as the boys game. It's like comparing soccer to football in our country when it gets down to it. It doesn't mean that it doesn't deserve the utmost respect, but to expect that it's going to be as exciting across the masses is a bit far fetched.

Other than it being a massive NCAA violation that the coach not selected to present the award would howl endlessly about?

I don't have a problem with Joe Hall-I agree he is 80 or so and will butcher some names--I am not blaming him at all--why in the world would he be presenting the girls--I bet he did not attend one girls game all year! Why not bring back a former Miss Basketball to present? The concept of the entire night was awesome but it lasted 4 hours with a live auction right in the middle of it! Surely they could cut that down to about 2 hours! Girls basketball has come a long way--Greenwell-Duke, Boley--Notre Dame, Epps, Rogers-UK, Morris, Rich-UK, Hammond-UL--There are many others over the years--boys can't even come close to that! Money drives the bus though!

Of this talented young ladies career. The Least we can do is pronounce her name right. Its four letters. Not exactly a tongue twister. Is ok that Joe B is oblivious to girls basketball...most people...but I don't think its too much to ask to take 5 seconds and make sure you know the name of the award recipient. Just embarrassing.
