ASHLAND The Dixie Heights Colonels could’ve changed their nickname to the Chameleons for the 60th annual Ashland Invitational Tournament because they seamlessly adjusted to their surroundings on each of the three days.

 

“We played three different-style basketball teams and went ahead and did what we needed to do each game,” said coach Ken Chevalier.

 

Liam Rabe accepted the Dr. Loren Ledford Most Valuable Player Award following the Colonels’ 62-47 championship win over Paul Laurence Dunbar on Monday night at Anderson Gym.The senior essentially stamped his name alongside former AIT greats with nine points amid a torrid 16-0 run that bridged the first and second quarters. Rabe finished with 24 points to lead all scorers, but Dunbar kept him to six in the second half.
