I was going to say that it was likely not all schools file stats for tackles, and even the ones that do may not be entirely accurate. Congrats to all the above on outstanding seasons, however.

It seemed about 20 to 30 % of the schools do not record or report the stat to KHSAA. So it is just missing for some schools - including a very high profile school with lots of fans here. I did not do exhaustive search through the records. I just used the list I started and others posted. Definitely a few players with similar stats may not be on the list.

 

There is a level of subjectiveness to the stat - especially assisted tackles. KHSAA lumps both solo and assist in their recorded total. The stat keepers like to use 0.5 for assisted tackles when rolling up the total.

 

Coaches usually do their political thing - especially with defensive players when it comes to post season recognition. Hopefully the regional teams and C-J State team will not overlook those at the top of this list.

I think it is very interesting that the best team in the state at the end of the year (Trinity) does not have one person on the list. Goes to show that you can play weak teams all year long and put up the lofty stats but in the end those guys normally can't win at the end of the year. Unless you look at the schedules these kids play against those numbers really don't mean much.

Portman is a junior also, he's only 16. He would be a sophomore if he hadn't started school a year early.Looking back they didn't record stats for his last 2 games so he stayed at 105 from the 11th game.
