Holmes 61 Bishop Brossart 37

Featured Replies

Final from Alexandria.

Bolden led Holmes with 26 pts, 5 rbs despite only playing 2 1/2 qtrs.

Hackworth led Brossart with 16.

Brossart led 15-9 early in the 2nd qtr and Holmes outscored them 52-22 rest of the way.

Is appears the Mustangs didn't have much answers for the Bulldogs. Was BB just struggling to make shots or was Holmes d-fense just to strong for them?

Holmes flat out got after it on D tonight. Their press forced a lot of turnovers and BB didn't get many good looks.

Big change compared to last week v Henry Clay. Different level of competition too but Holmes looked much better tonight snd played smarter offensively.

The Bulldogs were just too much for teh Mustangs. Bolden didn't play the 1st quarter due to a coaches decision and the Mustangs pulled out to an early lead. When Bolden entered in the 2nd quarter, it was night and day on the Bulldogs effectiveness. The Mustangs could not generate much and had a slew of turnovers. Holmes is a much much better team when they play up tempo.

Holmes besides Bolden shot horribly from the 3 point range and anything outside, but all of them finished in the up tempo transition. The game was pretty much over mid way through the third and Holmes played everyone in the final quarter. The Bulldogs will have to shoot better from the outside to play with NCC and CCH. They are probably not as good as them at this time. I will say and, we all know this, Bolden makes them very very competitive. Avery played really well, also tonight.

Brossart may struggle some this year. This team, at least tonight, did not look like the normal Mustang team. They played hard but may not have the talent as in the past.

Holmes pressure and trapping in the half court caused Brossart fits. The Bulldogs had a lot of deflections which led to steals and transition scores. Holmes forced the issue from the 2nd quarter on and it was really no contest thereafter.

Hackworth is a nice player for the Mustangs. Don't leave him open because he can fill it up.

Just way to much quickness for BB,,Bolden looked like a man on a mission after sitting out the first quarter..

Holmes better find some other boys to hit outside shots.

Yes, they were not even close. They had a few air balls and they had plenty of wide open uncontested looks. McClendon was way off tonight but he played super defensively.

Bolden could have scored many more than 26. He passed up quite a few from 5-8 feet kicking it out to others when he could have finished with the shot. He is maybe too unselfish or was tonight. The Mustangs had no one that could have blocked his shots.

Anyone who thinks that a single player cannot overly influence a game, did not witness this one.

The Mustangs opened up a 15-9 early second quarter lead against the mere mortal Holmes Bulldogs without Bolden, when James entered the game and began to exude his influence, leading his team on a 21-4 run, that included a 15 point Bolden contribution, giving his team a 30-19 at the half.

Pretty amazing! He, and our inability to function against the Bulldogs pressure run-jump defense, pointed out that we have a long way to go before achieving "prime time" status this season. A back door play by the Mustangs to open the second half, was just about the only shot that we took on this night that either wasn't contested, or that we were not intimidated on. The Bulldogs forced 30 Mustangs turnovers, totaling 80 in the past three games, a figure that we are going to have to reel in order to be consistently competitive.

With that being said, I doubt that we will see another talent the likes of Bolden for the remainder of the season

Senior Spencer Hackworth led the Mustangs with 16 with four 3-pointers. Jackson Crawford added 8, Clay Kramer 7, Gabe Roberts 4, and Jon Zink 2. The Mustangs only graced the free-throw line on four occasions and only managed one completion.

Bolden led the Dawgs with 26, Mullins added 11, Avery 8, Greene 4, Daniels 3, and Moore, Covington, and Brandon Engleman with 2 each. The Bulldogs were 10/13 from the line.

The Holmes JVs were pretty good themselves defeating the home team 42-35.

Mustang was right, Bolden was on fire, my first trip to the Brossart gym, very nice, love the floor, kudos to the student section, they had a nice crowd and was entertaining, glad to see a gym with students in it, #15 can light it up for Brossart, I was behind the Holmes bench, as soon as this young man touched the ball, Coach Listerman was yelling shooter, get on him, leave this young man open he will burn you for three, good luck to the Mustangs, oh great popcorn also, nice win for the Dogs, keep rolling.
