Maxpreps Preseason Top 5

Dixie has a chance to make some early noise opening with NCC Tuesday.

Not going to happen. Even if Dixie was full strength I don't believe they play with NCC. NCC has had their starting 5 in place since the start back in October. NCC is overdue to win the region and opening with a win against Dixie starts the process.

What does the bolded mean?

Yep... not even sure Rowan/Dixie would be 4&5 in their REGION.

Rowan is definitely not a top 5 team in the state but every preseason ranking I've seen has them #1 in the 16th.

I'll admit, I was embellishing a bit on my statement. Both the teams are decent, just not Top 5 worthy.

Dixie may not be worthy of a top 5 ranking this early in the season, but I firmly believe they can beat Holmes right now, without the 2 starters they are missing.

I have seen both play this season and you might have pulled multiple muscles stretching for that one right now. As both teams are currently constructed I would say Holmes would be better than a 10 point favorite. It will be a different story when Moore and Hedger are back however. That game comes closer to more of a pickem than anything.

No way. Dixie played them tight this summer at far less than where they will be to start the season. I've seen all these boys, on both teams, play over the summer in AAU, as well as over the last 4 years. Dixie, with the team they have right now is better than Holmes. Holmes has Beetle... that's it.

You know I'm a fan of the Dixie boys, but in that game over the summer Booher was playing kids that won't see near the minutes they saw that game as well as missing 6th man, 6''5 soph Jaiden Greene. Dixie was missing Moore and maybe Bolin (would have to look at the video) but that's it. Hedger played. I wouldn't use that game to say Dixie is better. Especially considering Holmes won.

I won't disagree that Dixie could beat Holmes but I do think you're not giving Holmes enough credit. All this talk about it being all Bolden, yet Mullins has quietly had 19 and 12 points the first two "real scrimmage games" and Avery just had 28 and 12 against Johnson Central. Add Markel McClendon to the mix and you have a group of 4 players that can compete with anyone in the state. Dixie is deeper and more experienced but Holmes has more individual talent.

Dixie was missing Drew Moore, Nick Niehaus and Mitch Bolin.... AND they had 4 reserves that will not see varsity minutes (one of them didn't even make the JV team)... 9 players total... and Ken played them all generously. Dixie was up big with the 5 guys who will see varsity action.... but the score slipped as generous minutes were given.

As far as Holmes goes, you know Holmes is my Alma Mater and my second favorite team. I've coached several of those kids, for several years when they were in middle school... I'd pick them up, drive them home, etc... I went to grade school and HS with Rod Avery's dad... I watched my son's AAU team play Rod's AAU team a couple of times during the summer... so, believe me when I say I know what Holmes has AND I am a HUGE Holmes fan.... but there is no way (outside of Beetle) they have more talent than Dixie... no way! :)

BTW, you have to buy me and Lawnboy a pretzel tomorrow night!

I think we can atleast agree that neither team will be the same one we saw this summer.

Not sure if I'll be at Dixie tomorrow or not but if I am we can discuss the pretzel situation thrn :lol2:
