That may be true, I do remember reading in the article that he was back living in Kentucky at the time. However the UK job was posted at the time, the UL job wasn't. Maybe Bobby had some insight that the UL job was about to open up, I have no idea.

 

The only things I know as facts at the time I read the article is that prior to it he had left UL for Arkansas and was then fired by Arkansas. At the time the article was written he was a candidate for the UK the Tennessee jobs, among others. Once those jobs were filled he became a candidate for the UL opening once Charlie left.

Unless he knew something everyone else didn't, he was a great coach needing an opportunity that a lot of schools were willing to pass on at that time. It would be hard to turn down the Tennessee job in that situation. Which is why I don't personally think he was given an offer from them or UK.

Well, Petrino and Jurich have a long friendship, predating Petrino's first go-round at UL. So, while I don't think anyone could say they knew when Strong would leave, everyone knew Strong WOULD leave. Who knows? I think the WKU gig was a good one for Petrino, and it really was even greater for Jeff Brohm, in the overall scheme of things. Interesting how things all work out, huh?

It was years ago, I don't remember, but the more I think about it was a family member of his. He probably hated UK all along, I dunno. But if the quote from a family member holds any water, then I would expect him to hate UK more now than before.

Thanks.. I doubt his dad would make it up. Personally I think Pertino is a great coach, but obviously had some character issues. I'm happy with UK's hire, it was the safe one and appears to be a good one. That said, UK not giving him a look when he appeared to be open to the job, is the reason why I said he will beat UK by as many as possible.

I honestly believe Petrino will beat UK by as much as possible because he wants to beat everyone by as much as possible. One of the most fun things about his first time around at Louisville was that they NEVER let off the pedal. I'm looking forward to seeing that materialize again over the next few years. I don't care who you're playing. Go hard for 4 quarters....every down.

I agree that you should always play to win.. But some coaches, and I'm not saying Pertirino is one of them, take it to an extreme. That said we have established that he hates UK, we have also established that his father said he was open to the UK job. Obviously they chose Stoops, so I could see him doing something extreme if he is able.
