2014-15 Kentucky High School Basketball Preview - 12th Region

Featured Replies

I'm following a release of the top 25 teams in the state. Yesterday, the entity posted their "first 5 out." In other words, those just missing the top 25. One of those teams was Mercer, coming in a spot above Perry County Central. This obviously took into account the fact that Dow is now eligible.

I'm anxious to see the actual top 25 as it's rolled out. I'm confident Wayne, Boyle, Lincoln and Southwest will all make it - and I'm guessing in that order. Before it's all said and done, the 12th will have 5 teams in the top 25; perhaps even in the top 20.

Can't wait!

I seen the Courier Journal coaches top 25 and Wayne is no. 7. Lincoln, sw, Boyle and Mercer didn't get any love.

No surprise there. Historically it has always been hard for the 12th Region to get any love and when looking at 12th Region results in the most recent Sweet 16 tournaments it's easy to see why.

Agree. The 12th doesn't have a very strong recent history.

I do think there is a good chance we'll be seeing a 12th region team on Saturday at the state tournament this season.

Following up on the rankings I mentioned earlier, the site referenced has now revealed 10 - 30 to date; 1-9 still to be published.

#29 Mercer

#17 Lincoln

#16 Southwestern

No mention of Boyle or Wayne yet which means they will both be top 9. So, the 12th has 5 teams in the top 30 in this ranking. Not saying this ranking is perfect but each ranking comes with a full write-up on the team and is done by an individual that actually covers these kids throughout the season AND summer.

As for the 12th not getting respect in the USA Today rankings, those are done based on coaches' votes. First, how many responded? Second, coaches aren't very knowledgeable when it comes to basketball across the state. They know their regions and their schedules plus the "big names." It only took me getting to #2 to tell that ranking was lacking. If you really want to put a ranking out with Ballard as your #2 this year, you lose credibility. It shows a complete lack of knowledge.

Add Boyle at #9.
