If they are working I don't care. Many of these people work on jobs that most Americans don't want anyway.

 

I get so tired of hearing this line. There may be some jobs that fit this category, but there are a lot of good paying jobs that the go unfilled by those who believe manuel labor is beneath them. If we reduced welfare payments and/or brought back workfare that Obama did away with, people would look for jobs. When one is in difficult times, they should accept anything that is available, until a better opportunity comes along.

Some such as farm working jobs are tough work, I'm sure most of us wouldn't do it, and recently some crops have rotted in the fields as there were not enough workers. For whatever reason many of these jobs go unfilled. So I have no issues if they come and work, and work those jobs, to me those people prove themselves.

I have no problem with people coming here legally. There are rules and regulations that cover work visas, use it, improve it, but no to making all these lawbreakers legal. When that was done in the Reagan years we were promised by the feds that was a one time deal and the flow of illegals would be slowed down. There is no way to stop the illegal flow 100%, but you can reduce it to a trickle.

 

As far as workers for the farmers, until about 2000 I could find all the help I needed, as well as other farmers in the area. But attitudes changed that manual labor was beneath people, even high schoolers. Back during the recession of the 1980's I had men who were laid-off asking for jobs on the farm, because they needed the money for unemployment was not enough and I would say they had more pride. That is why I believe welfare should be reduced.

To me it's grueling work and it takes a special kind of person to do that backbreaking work.

To some degree I don't think it was a matter of if, but when. I was not expecting him to do so this quickly but I guess his assumption was the sooner he does it, the more time voters have to forget about it when the 2016 elections come around.

 

When it comes to immigration, I tend to be somewhat in the middle of the road and maybe lean more towards the Dems view more so than the GOP just due to I look at myself in the shoes of those in Mexico and know I would probably be trying to escape Mexico to the US also, legally if possible but probably illegally if I had no other choice. So, saying that, I am not as troubled by this statute in what it does, I am more troubled by how it came about, with virtually no involvement from congress. I know you could say all presidents have issued an executive order or two that dabble in the grey area as to whether it is a statute that goes beyond the presidents authority and should be presented before congress but this order seems to go beyond dabbling in the grey area and completely cross that barrier and clearly disrupts the balance of powers and puts too much power in the president's pocket.

I understand what you are saying. There would be some older individuals that may not be able to do some jobs. Unfortunately, there are many who are out of shape and could not do the job. Yet, if you are in a tough situation and need money, suck it up mentally and physically and get out there and work.

 

And it is not just farm workers that are needed. I have seen many construction workers who were Mexicans. Once again, too many think that it is beneath them to work physically. A lot of unemployed Americans could be working construction.

That most likely is true. We have laws for a reason to protect America and its citizens. I understand many want to come for a better life and cannot blame them. But, just as Mexico has some strict immigration policies and they enforce them, we have immigration policies and need to enforce them to protect US citizens.
