Once again it simply shows that when all things appear to be equal on both sides any game involving Coach Fookes becomes clearly advantage Boone Cty.

 

As someone once said, "She can take hers and beat yours and she could take yours and beat hers." She is simply that good and makes that much of a difference. She is just that much better as a coach then all the rest IMO and many others.

Gee, BIGZIG, what do you want me to say? NDA lost, and we both know why....Fookes won the game for Boone! You can talk all you want about the frosh, but she is the only coach in the Commonwealth that could have pulled off that feat....You can pretty much hand the Ninth Region Trophy over to Fookes for the next three years now, as she will not allow her girls to do nothing but work.

 

It's been a fun year for NDA, sorry it had to end on such a sour note, but most if not all of the girls will be down at Rupp rooting on the boys across the CovCath Highway Thursday having a ball.....Life goes on.....

 

One out of two Ninth Region Championship for my schools Basketball teams isn't too bad of a year is it BIGZIG? See you in Rupp on Friday......

Congrats to both teams. As we all know, there will be teams at Diddle that are not even close to the talent level that both of these schools are. However, being in a region together, only one can go. 4 Northern KY schools were in the finals of 3 different regions last night. Brossart(10th), NDA/Boone(9th), and SK(8th). If this doesn't tell you anything about the progress this area has made in women's basketball, I don't know what does. Yes, we still struggle to bring home the bigger hardware, but heck, give the coaches up here some credit for taking this area to the next level. I was at the Scott Co/Lex Cath game, and last night's final was nowhere close to that level, but these coaches are getting us closer to being able to compete down there. Congrats to all NKY teams and coaches this year for representing the area! Good luck to the Rebels next TH night! All of this, of course, IMO... :-)

Congrats to Boone County and Coach Fookes is one good coach.

 

Boone/Montgomery should be a good matchup on the court and on the sidelines cause John High is not chopped liver.

When Fooke's took away the over-the-top lob to ND's post players they were confused and had no idea what to do next because that is their bread and butter. Both teams missed a ton of bunnies and free throws. Someone said it best when they said "NDA knew that it was already over, but they forgot to show up and play the game first".

 

Cooty: you are right on target. Meredith Reed's leadership and toughness is huge for this team. Her numbers do not show up in the box score often, but what she does in the paint is invaluable. Two of the three ND post players didn't make a field goal and Meredith had huge impact on disrupting their game.

We are going to have two girls' basketball coaching legends in a showdown Thursday night. John High and Nell Fookes are no strangers the the Girls' Sweet Sixteen. This all happening with an oppurtunity for the winner to matchup against Donnie Gray and his Clay Co. Tigers. Three of the top H.S. girls' coaches in the state and all-time wins leader Howard Beth in the opposite bracket. Should be a pretty good week of basketball.

Give credit where credit is due so Fookes has done an excellent job at Boone, but there are other teams that would have also been better if they had gotten the top players from other programs like Fookes has. I know she has gotten players from Dixie, Conner, Simon Kenton, Ryle, St. Henry, and Highlands. There may be some I am not aware of but those are just the ones I can think of off the top of my head. I would think other coaches might have done better if they had gotten some of those players. The KHSAA proposition may put a stop to those transfers and Boone may then have to play with only the players in their district. Is Fookes a good coach? No doubt, but having top players from other programs transfer in sure makes it a lot easier.

Talent almost always trumps experience.

I don't know where you are getting that information but it sure isn't off the top of your head. There have been 4 girls in the last 7 years that have come to Boone County from other schools and 1 left Boone and went to another school and is now not even playing. The last from Conner was always going to come to Boone but Conner chose to play her out of Middle School. I don't know where you got the Dixie, St. Henry transfers from must have been way before my time.The new proposal would have no affect on any of the transfers above anyway each one lives in the Boone County district. I am sure you can look at Highlands, ND, Holy Cross, and Newport Catholic and find more transfers than at Boone.

Stephanoupolis from HHS, Daily from Ryle, Smith from Dixie, Bowling from Beechwood and Bradley from Conner. I'm sure that I am missing someone but I'm also pretty sure that's more than you'd find at HHS, ND, NCC and even Holy Cross during the last 5 years.

ahhhh, have to say you are wrong there buddy. Smith from Dixie, top player from Ryle (can't remember her name), Stephanopolous from Highlands, . . . . . and would have to go back to get the names of the others but anyone who knows Boone is WELL AWARE of the players that transfer in. Sure, they move into the district, but have played varsity in other programs. I would expect that trend to continue unless KHSAA puts its foot down.

Not sure where that makes me wrong ??? Just agreeing that Nell is the beneficiary of quality talent from other programs. What part of my statement is not accurate?

Do not know Smith must have been before Stefanopolis Daley from Ryle and Bradley from Conner Bowling is not even playing for Boone. But like I said that is going back 8 years. Each one lives in the district no rule change is going to prevent a person from living where they choose.

Please give names of players that have transfered into Highlands. Stephenopolis, came from Bellevue as 7th or 8th grader, is the only girl I can think of that did not come from the district or one of the local parochial schools. I can't think of a player who has transfered from a local school or for that matter from any school after there freshman year.
