Disagree. He shows more of what he can do on a high school court against high school teams than his past season with the Travelers. How did colleges find players before AAU became the monster it is now? He's that good and someone somewhere would have found him. To see how good he is you must watch him play and carry his Owen County team. He doesn't have to do as much when he plays AAU.

When you say to see how good he is you must watch him play and carry his Owen County team is more about how good of a high school player here in KY. The players he plays with and against are not the type players he must play with and against in D1 college. His exposure in AAU with the Travelers validates for college coaches his ability to compete against other D1 prospects. He should be showing more on the high school court because he is playing against few people his size and talent level. The recruiting game has changed and some of that is good and some bad. College coaching staffs can better predict how a player can perform against equal talent due to summer elite travel ball.

But how many times does he face the kind of talent who can play at his level and will be the type of player he faces at the next level in one season at Owen County? He'll face more top competition in 2 AAU weekends than he will during his whole high school season.

I watched him play for Hoop Dreams before he went to the Travelers and that was when I became a Carson Williams fan. When he was on Hoop Dreams. I knew then he was a special player. I then was fortunate enough to watch him play for Owen County against Mercer County last season and the performance he put on that day in an OT loss showed me just how truly special he is. He plays all five positions for Owen County. He's being asked to put that team on his back and do what he can to will the team to victory. He also manages to do it without becoming TeenWolf. I'm sure a D-1 scholarship is what he wants and I hope he gets it. Playing high level AAU and succeeding should get him there. All I am saying is that he is that damn good and you can tell whether you watch him on an AAU court in the summer or a high school court in the winter.

I just made the connection. I'm in Owen County for the first time right now to coach soccer.

A college coach does not have much ability to project how a player will take his game to the next level when watching him play against typical HS ball competition. It was the old way back in the day and kids are still watched in high school games. However, the heavy lifting of evaluations are performed in Elite travel ball weekends when there is a level of competition that can simulate how a prospect will perform in college.

He can play, period! But I tend to agree that AAU is what's helped him. Being in Owen County, I'm not sure he'd have had the opportunity to be known beyond the state borders. That's tough these days, even playing for a premiere high school program.

We are kind of saying the same thing. There's no doubt that AAU has and will get him offers at the next level. My main point is that if AAU did not exist word of how good he is would get around based on what he has to do for Owen County to compete. Having seen him play both high school and AAU is two different things and he has to do way more on a high school court than on an AAU court.
