Now, correct me if I am wrong, but when NCC and Newport clashed, wasn't EVERYBODY saying how bad Newport was and that the NCC players didn't act this way?

Somebody's got the cut and paste feature down  j/k

It would appear that the NCC players aren't as perfect as everybody thought.

I actually recorded Enslen's INT TD return as 41 yards even though the website box score does not show that. It happened quick and it is tough to see where the feet are when the catch is made from the angle I had on the field. I don't care where receivers catch the ball, just where they end up.

No. People said that Newport's players had to tighten it up. Just like people said that Wagner needed to talk to his players. He needs to again. A chop block on a zone blocking scheme will get a pass. Late hits can be questionable. JAWING, that makes everyone mad b/c it is completely a selfish and egotistical act. Don't drop cuss words and heed warnings that officials give.

That being said, I was horrible at that aspect of it. I couldn't stop talking. If I played now, I would have gotten a couple b/c I didn't want to back down. Completely selfish.

There was a lot of JAWING on both sides of the ball last night...raised my eyebrows a couple times.

D-1 players come from all over the place even a little school like HC... They do have a 230lbs RB who's only a 15yr old sophomore. So before you make a blanket statement like that asked the NCC players what it like to tackle a big back like that.

There's a huge difference between being a good high school running back and a D1 recruit. I'm not trying to deflate anyone's ego, jmo. I will say he's a big kid, good back, with average speed. I didn't see him run away from anyone except in the 4th qtr when he ran over one of NCC's 4th string cornerbacks. I hope he keeps working hard to be a D1 recruit, but "MOST" D1 recruits don't just jump out of the woodwork their senior year, they've been on someone's radar early on. By the way, there doesn't appear to be any D1 recruits on NCC's team either.

I was take a "stab in the dark" myself, I wasn't sure were he caught the ball either.

No cut and paste job on this, I have a Masters Degree in two-finger typing. :lol2:

So we agree if you have a D1 body all you need to do is put in the work and let the chips fall where they may. The big jump in production normally happens from the sophomore to junior year. That's one of the reasons big schools don't wanna see players until after there sophomore year. Now I know for fact that the HC's #3 was invited to a rising freshmen all star game in Miami and dominated the competition. Most of the kids came from the rich SEC recruiting areas.

Xavier Abernathy (BTW, love the name) has above average size for a Soph. Runs hard and is a "load" to take down. Hope he improves even more over the next two years. :ylsuper:

The personal foul after the play is frustrating and in this case came after teammates had made a great stop for a negative gain. NCC also had one in the Lloyd game on a kick-off where two players nailed the Lloyd returner at the 17 yard line and then a kid not anywhere near the play jawed to the guy blocking him. The ref intervened and pointed him in the direction of his bench and the kid kept it up and the ref pointed again and the kid still had something to say so the ref correctly threw the flag. To me that is disrespecting the officials AND your own teammates who made a great play.... but now because of your actions the opposing team is starting on the 32 instead of the 17.

Smith dominates as NCC sinks Holy Cross

Thoroughbreds junior rushes for 236 yards

By Terry Boehmker

COVINGTON, Ky. – Newport Central Catholic football coach Dan Wagner was excited to hear junior tailback Jacob Smith’s rushing total after their team’s 50-21 win over Holy Cross in a Class 2A district game on Thursday at Holmes High School.

Smith picked up 236 yards on 16 carries and scored a career-high five touchdowns in the victory that clinched the Thoroughbreds’ eighth consecutive district title.

“Wow, I knew he had a good night, but I didn’t know it was that good,” Wagner said. “He is just a special talent who’s capable of doing that stuff.”

Smith got nearly half of his rushing total on two first-quarter touchdown runs that covered 53 and 60 yards. He followed that with scoring runs of 24 and 23 runs in the second quarter that gave NewCath a 35-7 halftime lead.

Hmmmm, no jawing during the Newport/HC game. Yet lots of jawing last night durring NCC/HC. Makes you wonder who really does the trash talking. It was definitely all Newport when them and NCC played, however.

A nice "donkey chewin'", and a seat on the bench for a quarter or two would probably solve this.
