Grant County travels to Cooper for the final district game of the season for both teams. What's everyone's thoughts on this game??

I'd say Cooper wins big.

Cooper's Defense is back to pretty much full strength. I don't think Grant County will be able to put up 20 against the Cooper D like they did last week against Conner. Cooper goes 3-1 District on the strength of the defense and their strong fan support that always turns out for the home games.

I hear that Grant is big and they have a big running back. If Grant can take a page from the Campbell County playbook and control the line of scrimmage and pound it at Cooper,, they may make the game pretty interesting. I still think Cooper wins but the game could be close if they take them too lightly.

They do. But he's a grinder. Not a breakaway, big play guy. And he tends to wear down as the game goes on.

Watched the Cooper squad practice yesterday. Coach Borchers was intense. He's not going to let these kids take Grant County lightly. They'll be ready for Friday night if they survive this week with their HC. lol Final regular season home game for them and it's senior night.

I hope the boys are as intense as coach - they looked FLAT against S. Oldham. Wondering how the bye week will effect them. I know a few starters return from their injuries this week - they need to hit the ground running so to speak.

I've been looking forward to this game all year simply because a great friend of mine and co-worker has a son who plays for GC. Knew the kid from the day he was born and really a great kid and great family. The sad thing however are the stories I've been told about the program in GC.

 

I won't use names but from this guy I am told that the HC has very little to say when it comes to the offense etc. Was told that many players who have been playing all season are now sitting on the sidelines with no reason or being told why the changes etc. I also heard something that was kind of sad to hear and I don't know the reasons behind the move but still sad all the same was their starting QB who is a senior for some reason last week at senior night for some unexplained reason didn't play in the game. Many of the kids and parents had nothing but great things to say about the kid who put up with a lot over the years and finally on a night to celebrate all the seniors who put up with a lot on the team didn't even get to play. Many other position players have lost their spots in the last few weeks also with no explanation. Was told that 1 player is involved in everything it seems and one of the assistant coaches is the reason he is involved in everything while others are left out.

 

I hate hearing these things because I really had hoped Sipple was the answer down there but it sounds like the same old same old.

Grant County is more competitive now than they've ever been. I'd say the Head Coach has something to do with that. Sounds like maybe your friend's son is not getting the playing time he was getting to me. I doubt it's all negative as Grant County has been competitive.

I hope you are right. As far as my friends son, he is a starter and still plays so it's not him this was about.

I don't know no one at Grant Co, but based on scores alone they're improving. I just hate when a coach is trying to make changes and build a program and is met with negativity. Whatever Grant has been doing since they started football hasn't been working. I seriously doubt the coach knowingly has guys on the bench that he thinks are better than what he's putting in the field. What I'm saying is coach is playing the guys he thinks are his best chance to win.

I guess the one that really struck me as odd, and I hope there is a good explanation for it, but it's the QB who after playing for the program his entire High School career and finally made it to his senior year and was starting all of a sudden on senior night doesn't get the start and sits the entire game on the one night the seniors are honored.

 

Something sounds fishy about that one, maybe he got in trouble in school or something, I don't know and neither did my friend, but I felt bad for the kid who put up with the garbage the players put up with all these years only to be benched on the 1 night to honor them.

I mean Somerset must be garbage if that is your take since they are 0-8. Not sure what you mean. I used the wrong words and apologize. I meant they put up with all the losing and the lack of support from the school and students and fans etc. It's always sad when we go and play at GC and see maybe 25-50 fans in the stands and half of those leave after halftime. The lack of support is what I meant mostly when I said garbage.

 

It's also has a lot to do with the attitude. When the players see no support that attitude transfers to the field unfortunately. I will never forget the story told to me by players when GC came to Cooper to play 2 years ago. It seemed the only thing on the majority of the GC players minds during the game had nothing to do with the game itself but instead was where the parties were going to be after the game. This came from players on the field playing at the time. Several Cooper players were asked by GC players DURING plays themselves or getting up from tackles etc. "Where are the parties at after the game?"

 

The attitude starts at the top and includes the school itself as well as the alumni and boosters, and when there is no support it shows and trickles down to the players themselves where their biggest concern is when does the season end and where are the parties we can go to Friday night.
