I've been looking forward to this game all year simply because a great friend of mine and co-worker has a son who plays for GC. Knew the kid from the day he was born and really a great kid and great family. The sad thing however are the stories I've been told about the program in GC.

 

I won't use names but from this guy I am told that the HC has very little to say when it comes to the offense etc. Was told that many players who have been playing all season are now sitting on the sidelines with no reason or being told why the changes etc. I also heard something that was kind of sad to hear and I don't know the reasons behind the move but still sad all the same was their starting QB who is a senior for some reason last week at senior night for some unexplained reason didn't play in the game. Many of the kids and parents had nothing but great things to say about the kid who put up with a lot over the years and finally on a night to celebrate all the seniors who put up with a lot on the team didn't even get to play. Many other position players have lost their spots in the last few weeks also with no explanation. Was told that 1 player is involved in everything it seems and one of the assistant coaches is the reason he is involved in everything while others are left out.

 

I hate hearing these things because I really had hoped Sipple was the answer down there but it sounds like the same old same old.

Grant County's starting qb for all the games I have seen this year has been #6, who is a Senior, and started at qb for their Senior Night game vs Conner.

I agree and appreciate the clarification. I totally think that that it starts with the administration. I hate to see kids have to deal with lack of support NO matter if they win or lose. They are the brave souls that work everyday to be the best they can be and at the end of the day sometimes other teams are just better. I will say the last three years that they were embarrassed badly by the district opponents.

 

I did some research on KHSAA:

Siple- 3 years

2014 so far 1-6-1 with the 1 win over Owen whose record is 1-8

2013 1 win over Owen whose record was 2-8

2012 3 wins combined record of opponents they beat was 3-27

Arvin- 1 year

2011 3 wins record of opponents they beat was 6-24

Davis' last two years

2010 2 wins with record of opponents being 11-11

2009 3 wins with record of opponents being 10-20

 

Going back as far as I could on KHSAA, the only winning season they have had was 2007 and 2008. The only Head Coach to stay more than 4 years was Davis. That means that they have had 6 Head Coaches and only had football since 1993. If My math is right they have had football for 22 years and 6 head coaches one of which was there for 6 years so that leaves 5 for the other 15 years. NO ONE builds success that way.

 

As far as the boosters, I have always heard bad things about that organization and on the Conner vs. Grant game thread it seem to confirm the same issues as the problem.

The problem with Grant is all the parents and players think they know more than the coaches. No matter who the coaches are, they know more. Who cares if the fans show up? If the kids will buy in and their parents will shut up and support the coaches they will get better. Otherwise, they will continue to get the same thing they have always gotten. Hey Grant Co. you have good coaches and you will get better if you believe in them and play the game.

The Sr started I believe the first two games until he was injured. The Jr took over after that. The Sr played and started some as a Soph and Jr. He even started the first few snaps against Conner.

 

I'm not real sure where the benching of players with no explanation story is coming from.
