District 37 Scott vs Campbell County

Featured Replies

Treadway didn't even play in their meeting during the regular season when the Eagles won 4-1. Not to mention, two of their goals came from players other than Schneider. If 17 assists and 9 goals is "not a whole lot of offense" than I would like to know how much more Morgan needs to contribute to be mentioned here...

What a first reply...

Someone's opinion, and maybe not knowing the exact stats of every Scott player does not equal ignorance, sounds like we are a little sensitive about the Eagles.

Another suggestion... If you are going to call someone out like this, I think you should make sure you quote them correctly.

Hardly...

When Scott is the number one talked about team in the soccer forum, which is no question, the amount of purely ignorant statements made are shameful to see. Morgan's statistics are numbers that cannot be argued with.

His stats are good. I don't think anyone saying that there not. They are the most talked about team on this forum but it's not only because they are one of the top 3 teams in NKY, it's also because of their lack of decipline. They are one of the most undeciplined teams in the state. This will end up costing them on the road to state. The real "ignorance" is that the coach ha allowed this to continue throughout the season. The ubundant amount of cards is a reflection on him now since he has shown no actions to correct it. Maybe they can keep their heads in the game and make a good run to state everyone knows they have the talent to do it.

Those are some impressive stats. As someone else mentioned and has been debated on here before, assists in particular can be grossly overrepresented at the high school level, depending on who is keeping the stats. If you have an uneducated (some would say ignorant) or otherwise biased person keeping the stats for a particular team, that may result in some silly numbers. At CCH, i believe one of the coaches keeps the stats. Who keeps the stats for Scott?

That is a good point......there are some schools that I know give first and second assists and some that have students do the stats that give assists after a pass and the player dribbles through 3 players and shoots.....

Unless it is standardized, then the numbers are really only good comparisons within the players of that team......

with that said......17 is a good number....especially since Scott plays a pretty competitive schedule....

I agree with most of what you said otb84.. Scott did have some fairly tough competition, but remember they scored 20 goals and probably lots of assists against Calvary Christian and Pendleton. That really bumps up the stats...

Yes, 17 is a very good number but it depends on who is recording the stats. Still waiting on that answer I guess.....

Scott goals assisted 59% of time.

CCH goals assisted 81% of time.

3 years ago Scott had a 100% assist rate and one game Treadway's goals plus assists was greater than the total Scott goals in the game (i.e., he was credited with an assist on a goal he'd scored).

Hard to say this year that Scott's stats look questionable.

In fact, an 81% assist rate itself would be considered dubiously high, if we didn't all know how dominating the CCH possession game can be.

That's a good one, credited with an assist on a goal he scored, not surprising. I would note that I don't believe he has ever scored against CCH to my recollection. I would have to check your percentages but I'm assuming they are correct and they may be accurate as CCH has very few unassisted goals which is exactly part of their scoring problem. Just not a dominating forward who can take on defenders 1v1 very often and score.

Based on a quick survey, I'm not sure any team in northern KY has a lower recorded assist rate than Scott. It may have been a problem in the past, but the assists don't look inflated this year.

Looks like NCC has the highest assist rate coming in at almost 87%. No doubt attributable to their lethal throw-ins, corners and free kicks, which are unnerving for teams that don't defend set plays well.

Scott has a parent collecting the stats for the team. They are extremely knowledgeable about the game and only records correct stats. Scott has scored 61 goals on the season; only 35 of which have recorded assists. This is because Free Kicks, PKs, rebounded shots, ect, are recorded as unassisted goals. There are no errors in stat keeping there.

Maybe you've missed too many games this year groin. That's not been CCH's problem. It's finishing their chances front of goal. Opportunities have been there.

The parents could be knowledgeable about the game, probably are. However, there is probably a bias. Maybe subconsciously... or not.

I would agree the opportunities have been there. I was merely addressing the high percentage of goals to assists in general for CCH. There are not that many unassisted goals for them overall. A team that has trouble scoring during the run of play where you have to put more than a couple of passes together or simply lacks the skill to do so, would also have a high percentage because they rely on throw-ins, free kicks, etc.

Regarding the stats issue and who keeps them, I would think it should be a coach doing that job, otherwise you end up with inflated numbers having someone do it who has never played or coached at any level.

I am more than happy to answer a few of your questions. I have never had issues with saying who I am. I keep the stats for Scott. A student kept them last year and they were never turned into KHSAA. Before that the Coach (not our current coaching staff) kept them and he inflated them as has been mentioned on here. Before that coach I kept stats for the team. I have played the game, coached the game, and been a licensed referee. I do not show bias and I will not award anything that isn’t earned feel free to ask any or all of the boys. If there is a question about a stat it is discussed between me and the coaching staff. On a side note Morgan earned 16 assists last year that were recorded by the student keeping stats but as I mentioned were never turned into KHSAA.

Soccerforlife, what is your definition of an assist?
