First, I assume you are not talking about HHS as a "flash in the pan"....Did you not see the 100 year thingy posted???

 

Second, so you're saying it's easier to win lower divisions than upper divisions??? So the divisions are set up to play schools of the same size for a reason, right? They don't have "open" division for a reason right? So winning against smaller school your size isn't the same as winning against large schools of the same size? Not sure I get that. But here's something for you. I bet if HHS and SK changed divisions this year, HHS would go further in 6A than SK would go in 4A!

 

Footsteps??? Really???? C'mon now. How in the world are we worried about a team that lost ground in the coach's poll...even when we lost!!!!! Footsteps? Please!

You don't think a group of three or four outstanding players on one team can influence the outcome of 1A more than they could 6A?

 

No...because the other teams would have the same. That's why there are divisions. More kids, more opportunities to develop kids. Less kids, less of an opportunity. Percenatge wise, it's the same. It's just like one poster said, HHS is the T, X and Male of 6A. That's exactly right. Your school has just as much opportunity to compete with T, X, Male and SC as any other 4A school has to with HHS. If if I'm not mistaken, SK is pretty large. So tell me why if schools are the same size that it's easier to win one rather than the other. No logic at all behind that. Is it easier to win a D2 national championship in football?? Not as glorious, but is it easier. No!!! Because they are playing schools with the same restrictions and constraints and size. Could the D2 champ beat the D1 champ...no way. But that's why there are divisions. Same as in high school football. It doesn't make it any easier to win it. Thats ridiculous to say. If one team has 4 studs and only 4 studs because of the size of the school then the other one has the same opportunity. If the two biggest schools matchup, they it may take having 9 studs to win, because with those numbers, teams at that level are most likely going to have more athlete to develop. But here's the thing and I didn't see you address it yet...HHS would go further in 6A than SK would go in 4A this year. We'll never know, but something to think about! But still ridiculous to think lower divisions are easier to win in anything. Not there not because they are playing against "like" teams. Just cause one team dominates, doesn't mean it's easy. Should we have been saying its way too easy to win 6A when T was on a roll??

Not all 1A schools have the same amount of talent rolling through them on a consistent basis- lots of ebbs and flows. In 6A the numbers are high enough that it's easier to counteract one great class.

In 6A the numbers are high enough that it's easier to counteract one great class.

 

I agree that at the lower ranks, one very talented class can have an impact. That could happen. And that could happen in 6A too. Look at the Quick era for T. They were untouchable fromt the time they were sophomores and now back to the pack a little. But yes, probably easier to offset with larger numbers because you can only put so many kids on the field at one time. But with that said, winning it at any level is not easier. Does that great class make that team a contender, yes, but it's not any easier to do it. And when you look at the lower classes, it's the usual suspects winning them. So it must be the system that is developing them, not just one class coming through.

If you are an SK grad, you'd know how bad this program was, and how far it's come in the last 6-8 years. No one goes from being horrible to state champs in 6A without reaching milestones along the way. You can't be a flash in the pan like some smaller class teams with less competition and much smaller enrollment. It's a process. Let it play out. It's working. If it wasn't the guys at 'certain' schools wouldn't always be complaining about SK. They hear footsteps.....:up:

 

I know exactly how far they have come. They have only had 1 'bad' year since '05 and '06 when they had the first back to back winning seasons in team history. But their scheduling hasn't changed drastically since they stopped playing the Lexington schools when they were, at the time, the mighty 4A. They have been competitive enough in the past 5 years to branch out and schedule the so called big boys. Highlands next year is a start - but they need to go further than that by going and trying to get at least 1 of the Louisville schools they would have to go through in the playoffs.
