Tiger1 Posted March 12, 2006 Posted March 12, 2006 Nice run by the Pioneers. I think SK will be pre-season#1 in the 8th next year and has a very good chance to get back to the 8th region champioship game.
NEERFAN Posted March 12, 2006 Posted March 12, 2006 One point game at the half for the Rockets 31-30 probably the best half of the season (games I attended). I believe SC had a four point lead after 3 quarters and then they went on a nice run to seal the deal. Slaughter is a player, when push came to shove he was the best player on the court, very smooth. My wife made me laugh after a Slaughter basket when she said, "He's like Kenny Lofton", I said I think you mean Chris. I believe Wade scored about 6 for the Rockets and 8 for the Pioneers, man can he flat out elevate. If he ever learns how to play offense he could be a major find for some college coach. The PG from Shelby, I believe his name was White had a fine offensive game, SK failed to take away his left and he seemed to finish every time in the lane. Hester for SK was fairly quiet until the end of the 4th, he canned 3 deep treys in the last 3 minutes. Tough pill to swallow for the Sr's but SK will be back next year, should be very good with 4 major contributors back. On a final note, very dissappointed with the way the Shelby contingent acted after the game with a few players shouting at our student body, you have a fine team, win with class, after all we lost with class.
Wildcat Legend Posted March 12, 2006 Posted March 12, 2006 So throwing various types of beverage containers onto the floor, during the winning teams celebration, is considered "losing" with class in Kenton County?
insider Posted March 12, 2006 Posted March 12, 2006 I don't think that shows a lack of class by Shelby's players. After all you are talking about them saying something to the student section. It would be my guess that the student section also had some words for Shelby's players throughout the course of the game. My whole thing is if you are going to dish it out then you have to take it. Had the players said something to the adults in the crowd that would be different but to take some verbal jabs at a student section that has been mouthing all game is just part of the game. Your assesment of the game is pretty much dead on. Simon played a heck of a ball game and actually had a three or four point lead early in the third. Shelby went on a little spurt to go up the four points you mentioned and changed defenses at the start of the 4th which really broke the rhytm of SK's offense. In the end the size of Shelby's interior and Slaughter was the difference. SK tried but they just didn't have anybody that could stay in front of him.
NEERFAN Posted March 12, 2006 Posted March 12, 2006 Sorry didn't see any cups but I'll take your word for it, and I sat next to the student section and didn't hear any words that would be one bit offensive. I don't condone any object throwing or any offensive language, believe me check out the SK/Dixie thread from December if you want to see what I think about that type of stuff. I didn't have any problems with the Shelby contingent (Very into the game and good numbers) or their play on the court (with Slaughter and the rest of the group should have a legit chance at the crown) but I do have a problem with a group of players ripping off their jerseys and taunting the crowd. Sorry I wasn't brought up like that, could give a rats behind what any opposing student body thought of me or the team I represent. When you win a championship, any championship you should be worried about nothing more than your own. They should have celebrated in front of their own student body.
hopper24 Posted March 12, 2006 Posted March 12, 2006 So throwing various types of beverage containers onto the floor, during the winning teams celebration, is considered "losing" with class in Kenton County? What's wrong, got bored at the barber's? No, the 2 players who went directly in front of our adult sections and removed there shirts shouting barbs at our fans, that was just plain tacky! As far as the beverage container, that's not cool. That should never happen. Oh yeah, the girl down in front of SC's student section flipping off the SK side, says it all. No comment needed! I'm proud to be an SK alum and I thought our boys played hard and with dignity. The future looks bright in the 8th for our Pioneers.
NEERFAN Posted March 12, 2006 Posted March 12, 2006 So throwing various types of beverage containers onto the floor, during the winning teams celebration, is considered "losing" with class in Kenton County? BTW thought you were at the Barber shop or watching "Barbershop" or something like that.
hopper24 Posted March 12, 2006 Posted March 12, 2006 BTW thought you were at the Barber shop or watching "Barbershop" or something like that. :flame:
skfan Posted March 12, 2006 Posted March 12, 2006 I was at the game as well! I did not see anything thrown as well, i was at halfcourt three rows from the court across from the benches. Shelby County had a nice contingent, and I did notice on the way there they are only about 15 miles from Henry County!! I never get tired of driving to Rupp Arena for the sweet sixteen, but I detest driving on I-71. This was my first time to get to see Shelby play. I thought A. J. Slaughter was all that and then some!! Eugene Wade has some serious hops he goaltended 4 times I think. To Shelby County I want to say congratulations. I hope they go all the way. I just hope Eugene Wade doesn't put his arm through through the rim blocking a shot of CovCath's in winning the state championship!! To the SK seniors hold your head high you guys were great. I will especially miss Phil Schambach's game, I thought he turned it up a notch in leading the Pioneers to the runnerup position in the 8th region. This was a nice year for the Pioneers and call me crazy but I think they have a nice chance of not only going to the the sweet Sixteen but actually winning it!!:thumb: To all of my BGP peeps I won't be as busy posting as normal due to changing my focus upon the Trout and Stripers at Lake Cumberland!
Jim Schue Posted March 12, 2006 Posted March 12, 2006 Slaughter is a player, when push came to shove he was the best player on the court, very smooth. My wife made me laugh after a Slaughter basket when she said, "He's like Kenny Lofton", I said I think you mean Chris. Is your wife an Arizona Wildcats fan? Because Kenny Lofton was a pretty smooth player for them before he switched sports!
NEERFAN Posted March 12, 2006 Posted March 12, 2006 Have a good Summer, hope to meet you sometime down the line. I believe you stated you wear red sox, am I correct? Back to the game, did the ref blow the no call on Wade when he clearly grabbed and pulled down the rim? I think the 9th region refs would have called that in a heartbeat, haven't seen anyone jump like him in NKY.....EVER. Overall I think they called a fine game didn't take away from the flow of the game and they let the kids play. Like I stated in one of the pre game threads I've kept tabs on SC for a while, and had heard nothing but good things about Slaughter and I didn't come away disappointed, when he decided to take over the game we were in trouble. How long has he been starting for the Rockets?
NEERFAN Posted March 12, 2006 Posted March 12, 2006 Is your wife an Arizona Wildcats fan? Because Kenny Lofton was a pretty smooth player for them before he switched sports! No, she's pretty big into sports, thank the Lord and I don't even think she knew Kenny played basketball, she said she did after I started laughing but it was one of the funniest things she's said in a while. Forget the new cell phone ESPN has, she's my mobile ESPN.
steelcurtain Posted March 12, 2006 Posted March 12, 2006 I sat right next to Simon Kenton's student section, and believe me they are not innocent in this debacle. I saw several bottles fly through the air as Shelby players taunted the student section. There is no excuse for any of this behavior but saying simon fan's had no part in the fiasco is just a ridiculous comment.
steelcurtain Posted March 12, 2006 Posted March 12, 2006 What were hester's final stats? He was a non-factor till late in the game IMO. People who have been bashing wade on this site are out of their minds. He totally dominated the game defensively. He's a game changer. A couple of his blocks were sportscenter quality.
