Shelby did successfully take away Hester until late in the game. He made some quick moves in the first half but Shelby just kept running different defenders at him all night. I don't know if I have ever saw a team with so many kids that can guard like they do on the perimeter.

Like I said in know way do I or any responsible fan condone throwing anything. IMO SC should have taken their celebration to their end of the arena, their fans showed up in force and they deserved to share in the celebrration. As far as Wade goes there hasn't been one bash of Wade in thsi thread. The only thing I said was he needs to work on his offensive game, nothing that can't be fixed there. I agree, he's something else in the blocks department but sometimes you just need to pull back a bit when you're a shot blocker. Intimidating is one thing but when you give the opponent 8 points you aren't really helping your team. You Gallatin Co fans are tough.

They did a fine job on Mike, I'd say he went for at least 18-20, I know he had 4 treys 4 free throws and I believe one basket by goaltend, and one layup that went in. I guess that means he had at least 20.

I wasn't directing the wade bashing at you or any Simon fan...... in another thread there were several wade bashers saying he didn't make a difference in Shelby's record. I disagree totally. It is very nice to know that when your guarding a good and quick player like Hester, that if he beats you there is a human eraser behind you at all times. I like Shelby's chances at the state if they can set down in the half court and run an offense. I think there will be a couple of teams that can take away the one on one mentality of Shelby

I have read the post(s) that Steelcurtain is referring too. It was in a thread about the All 8th Region Team. There were a few who bashed Wade based on an attitude he displayed during his days at Carroll. I, for one, believe Wade has added a great deal to Shelby's team. He isn't a very skilled offensive player but he can score from in around the basket. The best thing for Wade is that he doesn't have to worry about scoring. The Chambers kid on the opposite block can put points up in bunches which allows Wade to save his energy for rebouning and returning opposing shots to sender. I also like Shelby's chances at state. I also think teams in the Sweet Sixteen will change defenses against Shelby and force them to run some half court sets. I was surprised that Simon played man-to-man defense the entire game. I would guess, Neerfan, that you do also since you seemed to be the rare bread of objective fan. :thumb: I just think that puts to much pressure on your defender to have to stop Slaughter, especially in a tight game situation. I am not "coaching from the crowd" here just wondering out loud.

I did leave one thing out of my above post. Is this the first game in a long time that Shelby didn't get to throw down a dunk??

 

Can anyone fill me in on who Shelby loses this year. I know SK returns 4 starters Hester, Elbert, Hurd and Blevins.

I believe they lose #10 PG White and #4 Slaughter. I'm not sure about #31 or #25 but the other two big guys, Chambers (So) and #45 Wade (Jr) will be back.

 

Sorry about the Wade bit, I do remember reading negative things about him in a few threads. I agree, when you have a shot blocker like that it allows you to be much more aggressive on the perimeter. I've seen bunches of HS basketball and I can only think of one other kid that can elevate like Wade and that's Bill Walker. I hope he doesn't get an offensive game until after HS. lol

I sat right next to Simon Kenton's student section, and believe me they are not innocent in this debacle. I saw several bottles fly through the air as Shelby players taunted the student section. There is no excuse for any of this behavior but saying simon fan's had no part in the fiasco is just a ridiculous comment.

 

I did see one bottle thrown and luckily it missed hitting anyone, I believe. As far as the fans saying anything offensive, I heard nothing of the sort. SK's administration has made sure that doesn't happen. No matter how you look at it Shelby's players should not have ran to SK's student section to celebrate. The worst part about it was the first player to run over there never got into the game.

Congratulations to Shelby County on the win. AJ Slaughter took over at the end no one could stop him. I thought Phil Schambach deserved to be on the All Tournament team. He had 15 points and defended Slaughter the whole night, who got most of his points towards the end of the game. I hope that Shelby goes all the way and I wish I could be at Rupp to see them play. SK seniors keep your heads up it was a fantastic season.
