Oldbird Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 I know Beechwood is not good, but this score did bring joy to my heart.
Whitney Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 Actually, I was surprised by Beechwood. Their keeper was good and they had a few decent shots on goal. Terrible field, though. Poor girls!
Oldtimebaseball84 Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 Little steps........be allowed to form a team...girls only........get money for uniforms and goals.....a better field may be next steps, but may also reopen the desire on the boys side. Then we are back to the enough boys to play football and soccer argument...
hoops5 Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 Little steps........be allowed to form a team...girls only........get money for uniforms and goals.....a better field may be next steps,... So the Beechwood girls program is new? I was not aware of that. Good for them.
Clyde Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 Little steps........be allowed to form a team...girls only........get money for uniforms and goals.....a better field may be next steps, .. Why would they need a better field when BW has a turf field already?
imsays Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 Soccer not allowed to use the football field. No soccer lines on the turf. They play on the grass behind the school which is part of the baseball field. Beech wood now have a boys jv team so varsity is probably a year away.

Would it cost a lot to line the turf(is it even possible)?
hoops5 Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 Not allowed or they can't because of no lines? Would it cost a lot to line the turf(is it even possible)? Dixie has soccer lines on their football field.
Clyde Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 Dixie has soccer lines on their football field. I wasn't clear. How hard/expensive is it to add soccer lines to turf after the turf is already in place?
imsays Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 I was told when they put in the field the football people would not allow soccer markings.
Geek61 Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 (edited) I was told when they put in the field the football people would not allow soccer markings. There was no soccer program when the turf was laid. When the new turf comes, it will be multi-purpose. The program is young and its a small school. Give it a break. Can't believe the bunch of spoiled bluebird fans. I bet all you complainers (here and at the game) have put zero effort into your program. It was built by people that are doing the same thing others are at BW now. Also, why do you about admission and fields to the poor parent volunteers working the gate. I never had an issue with Highlands, but I'm starting to see how the hatred forms. Edited October 5, 2014 by hoops5 Rule 8 and Rule 2
Guest LSPM89 Posted October 5, 2014 Posted October 5, 2014 Would Beechwoods basketball team and parents complain if they showed up at Highlands for a game and had to play a half court game? I think the complaints about the soccer field are justified and if Beechwood is not able to provide a regulation size field, I question them being allowed to have home games. The kids work hard in practice and deserve a full size field to play their games on. Not sure why you are getting your feathers ruffled so much.

You might want to get your yard stick out. The field may not be "regulation", but it's the close enough that they were able to host District playoff games.
Oldtimebaseball84 Posted October 5, 2014 Posted October 5, 2014 There are minimum/maximum standards set by khsaa......if those minimums are met, then it is "regulations." However....I believe the min and max of width, for example, could be 15-20 yards difference from one field to another. Not 100% sure of the exact numbers, so someone please correct me if I am wrong. Could you imagine the bases in a V baseball game being 110 feet instead of 90? The rim in a basketball game being 11ft instead of 10 ft? Width and length of the field definitely affects game. IMHO.......you measure the field that the state finals will be held on, and all district and regional games should be played on that size field. Then each region sends the team best prepared for the game..... If you really ask......the field should not only be the same size, but if the state final field is turf, then regionals should be on turf........same surface for the same reasons above.

My point was that it was determined that the field is sufficient for District and Regional play. So your half-court comparison is overstated and completely wrong. It simply has to be good-enough for now as that is all they have. The Beechwood Campus is landlocked and they don't have any parents paying to renovate a public/city facility into a nice complex. Hopefully, with the new turf and the some very talented field scheduling, the Soccer program will be playing in the main stadium. While I'm not sure I agree with your statements about Regional and State finals needing to be the same size and surface, I don't think I have a strong opinion to the contrary either.
