Austin Hill of Cov. Holmes..

Featured Replies

While this is a great thing, I think its the mental aspect of it all. The "tough get going when the going get tough" attitude during the game, not after it is over with and your sitting there saying "dang, how did that happen, I better get better..."

I don't think its likely Hill will quit football seeing he is a better D1 recruit for Football than basketball at this point, but I see him playing both and lighting both up and maybe having to play through injury to do it because I am getting that that is the kind of player he is. He will have offers to play with the round ball or the more oblong shaped one...

Hill plays receiver in football

And Rice will not be back at Holmes...he is attending Taft

Austin i think will probably be the toughest kid in nky and will be the best senior recruit next year in basketball and football

I must say I am very impressed with Mr. HIll...not even a week after the end of the season and he's already working on his game for next year...i was up at holmes and had to go through the gym and there was Austin with four other holmes guys working on his free throws and having them pass him the ball so he can work on his jumper. Good to see he took that loss hard and is trying to get even better for next year :thumb:

This is the type of leadership the dawgs will need in order to return to the top next year.

Perhaps what you really seen was the NKY Tarheels getting an early start to their AAU season. After all they play better under Pouncy don't they?

I'm not very familiar with the AAU team... Do the Tar Heels still play together? Who still plays for the team and who is Pouncy?

The Tar Heels are no longer together. I believe they're all too old if I'm not mistaken. Also Pouncy is/was their AAU coach that brought them up.

Now during the summer the boys all work on their game by going to camps and playing in high school summer leagues. It's good to see Austin getting a head start though and working so hard. I can't stress enough how much of a leader and hard worker this kid is.

When the tar heels were together last summer, the team included nate edmondson, duran jefferson, austin hill, greg rice, dan penick (for some tournaments), and i think a couple other kids from around nky and from down state...im not sure if hester played or not

Pouncy... Isn't there a ninth region official named Pouncy?

Same guy.

Would anyone agree that Austin Hill has proven himself over the past season enough, that he is possibly the best recruit in NKY out of the Junior class? If not, where do you see him playing? Is he going to play football instead? With the problems at UC, can he play there?

My opinion is that he should sit out of football, he is too beat up this year and had to play through some major injuries to just have the amazing season he had.

Austin will be on the football field because he is smart enough to know not to put all his eggs in one basket. Austin is to good of a football player to give it up his senior year.

Very true...he has potential to go big D1 in either sport.

You got it...I heard after a major blowup as a coach several years ago they asked him to become an official to see what it was like and he is the same guy who coaches a few of the Tar Heels AAU teams.

I believe he coaches the 11 and 12 yr old boys teams. They usually play several of the 11 yr olds up in the 12 division during the year and in the State tourney they play 11U. They are tough and he does a good job with them as they are all good defenders and shooters. I know he worked with Jefferson, edmonson, hill, etc while they were at the AAU age.

It is pretty serious as there is some major recruiting going on with the TAR Heels to get the best kids. If that is your cup of tea then so be it....

Pouncy is who made duran, austin, and nate who they are. He put in a lot of work with those guys and still gives them little tips and pointers and is at most of their games.

And now he is one of the best officials in the region...

i heard the same thing about how he got into officiating qryche11...

havent seen him officiate too much...i dont think he does many holmes games for the simple fact that he coached almost all of those boys sometime or another during their careers.

I wouldnt say he is one of the best ... yet. I saw him officiate a game and there were some questionable calls but he keeps his composure and never lets the coaches or players get to him. He has the potential to be a very good referee though. Its a thankless job....always remember.
