The record of the teams Caldwell County has played is 22-24 as of right now (look it up) The record of the teams that DeSales has played is 30-18 as of right now (look it up) You are entitiled to your own opinion, but be reasonable. Hell yeah it hurt two years ago, congrats to you and your team. How did last year feel? Exactly, so let's all be nice. Shawnee is pretty good this year, but the other district teams you listed above are not good. How is a louisville school in 2A? it is called about 310 kids, what is your enrollment? As far as your comment about all your skill players returning "that DeSales could not handle" you Might be correct, who knows for sure right now. So number #1 is fine with us. Gosh guys, I think all of the top 10 teams feel like their teams are deserving of consideration and have a shot to be playing in the game at WKU. A lot can happen between now and then and it is dangerous to be thinking beyond this Friday if you ask me. ColtPride, I was wondering about your "record stats" as there have been only 5 weeks of the season, but regardless, both the teams are impressive. That would be why they are #1 and #2, but #3 thru #10 are gunning for you and no one gets to the finals after playing the first half of the season, you have to play them all. I wish luck to all the teams and hope to see the best other team across the stadium from us in December.

Interesting thread. The 2A field is solid with more than a handful of teams that have a legit shot at the title. Polls are meaningless and are for us to squabble over and have some fun. The truth is, a team needs some luck coupled with some solid preparation to reach the finals and win. Staying injury free is a must and that goes with the luck aspect. As for CCHS and DeSales, they both are strong and have a good shot. I like close games whether it's 72-70 or 3-0, both are great to watch and both are wins. I for one am looking forward to the second half of the season, how teams filter out and a great solid playoff out of the 2A schools.

It is interesting to me that for some of these 2A teams, the best game on their resume is a close loss to a 1A school.

I am implying that with a less than 400 enrollment it is hard to see Desales more than a 1A school and yet they seem to compete rather well in 2A and would be competitive in 3A in my opinion. I am not implying that Desales isn't legit, because they are more than that. I am just saying that to be a western Kentucky public school against a big city private school that Caldwell doesn't have the pick of the litter.

Size is determined by male enrollment. Desales has 310 boys and Caldwell has 321. Not much difference.

You seem to forget who DeSales competes with within the private sector? Tell me who you think gets the pick of the litter? Its not DeSales......

If you don't feel there is a difference in a private school over a public school then take off your rose colored glasses and get in the real world. I am here to tell you ALL the talent in Caldwell County is on the field on Friday nights. There is no more. It has peaked lately and will most likely decline. Just stating facts. If our QB graduates (which he will after this season) we do not have the luxury of getting another kid to take his place from across town. We have the underclassmen that have to step up and fill those shoes. And trust me, after Sindelar graduates those will be some HUGE shoes. Not to mention several other players on Caldwell's current roster.

I agree. Private schools do have an advantage in potential players. Louisville has approx. 1 million people in the metro area (surrounding counties included). When you have the opportunity to go and find/attract players from such a large population it is very helpful. It doesn't hurt when you win, that brings people to you. It is refreshing to see teams like CCHS, Mayfield, and other county/community schools where football is more than just playing football. I have never been to Princeton, but I'm sure community pride in the football program is enormous. It would be fun to experience.

Princeton's fixation with football is pretty fascinating because, like many places, the teams have gone through many down periods.

 

However, I think the love for football goes all the way back to 1911. Princeton was always proud of its high schools, first Princeton High School and then Princeton Butler High School, and football was the first high school sport here. Princeton's first game ever was at Madisonville, which had had a team for several years and was expected to rout Princeton. But Madisonville only won 14-7. Madisonville school officials even wrote a letter that appeared in the Princeton newspaper that basically said you should be proud of your team, they fought like tigers! (Teams here have been the Tigers ever since.)

 

The community just rallied around the football program and continues to do so, especially when the team shows some promise.

 

Really, for a small community, Princeton/Caldwell County supports all of its local teams. But football was first. It was first to have some success (6-0-0 in 1915) and has since added 2 state championships (1963 and 1998).

 

It was a real big deal for Princeton to have success back in the day against places like Hopkinsville, Madisonville, Paducah, Owensboro, etc. I think that initial success really sets a tone in a small community. If it had been in basketball, then Princeton would probably be a big basketball town.

 

So when other sports complain about not getting as much support as the local football team, I tell them to blame 1911! :lol2:
