Habib Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 How U2 became the most hated band in America - Salon.com Pretty good summary.
formerkywrestler Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 I think it is easier than that. 1. They put out crappy music. 2. They put said music on everyone's iPhone.
Habib Posted September 18, 2014 Author Posted September 18, 2014 I think it is easier than that. 1. They put out crappy music. 2. They put said music on everyone's iPhone. 3. Bono is pretentious and ostentatious.
Habib Posted September 18, 2014 Author Posted September 18, 2014 I will say that I never understood why U2 was so popular until I went back and listened to their old records, then I "got it." But, I didn't grow up with them like that. I grew up with Bono counting incorrectly in Spanish on Apple commercials. South Park also nailed their satirical takedown of Bono:
lawildcat Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 I never liked U2. Just never got into them much. Achtung Baby was ok. I'm not sure why people are upset that they got something free that they can delete.

Jim Schue Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 They were fantastically amazing from "Boy" through "Achtung Baby." Then "Zooropa" came out and I started noticing cracks in the foundation. It all came tumbling down with "Pop," and they've been terrible ever since. I can deal with Bono's douchey activism if they're making good music.
rockmom Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 I like U2. Dang! U2 AND Coldplay? You're my brother from another mother (and father)!

I've never gotten why Americans want celebrities to be only entertainers and not share their beliefs or causes. Makes no sense to me whatsoever. They're people like any of us, and we're all welcome to share what we believe and do what we can to further causes we believe in. Just doesn't make any sense.
Hellbird Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 Their songs especially early on all had the same guitar rhythm and drum beat. I only liked Sunday Bloody Sunday and that was about it. All the rest were just like Sunday Bloody Sunday but with different words lol Plus Bono is a dink
titletownclown Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 Dang! U2 AND Coldplay? You're my brother from another mother (and father)! Love both.... The final minutes of the song Politik on Colplay's 2003 Live album give me chills every time I listen to it. I recently bought an electric piano for my music room and the first song I "played along with" after I set it up was Politik. I challenge anyone to listen to the lyrics in U2's Moment of Surrender and not be moved. One, Beautiful Day, Bad, Sunday Bloody Sunday..... the list goes on and on.
titletownclown Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 The title of this thread should be prefaced with - Void Ab Initio........
