Bishop Brossart 8 Calvary Christian 0 (10th Region Class A Finals)

Featured Replies

Stopped by for a stroll thru the Calvary Christian complex this afternoon. Arrived late and game was already out of hand. Saw mostly the JV squad playing. Heard Brossart got up early and subbed freely.

Congrats to Jeff Paulin, tourney MVP, Gabe Roberts and Mark Goller all tourney for Brossart.

Someone was saying next up in All A will be NCC. That should be a fun game.

Congrats to Brossart! Good luck in the next round of the All A.

Whomever you are posting soccer updates on TAC's account----please tell TAC that is a Rule 11 violation. :lol2:

So Scott scored 10 against Calvary and it was an issue, Brossart scores 8 and nothing?

It's all in the way you do it.

So one kid scores all the goals that's the issue? Do we take issue if one baseball player gets all the RBI's? What about if one kid scores most of the points on a basketball team? One if one girl scores all the points in a volleyball match? is that the issue?

Nobody took issue with Scott scoring ten goals on Calvary Christian. The issue under discussion was that one player scored 7 goals. Many feel that the coach should have subbed him out.

Why, it's the premise of the game to score goals?

Been discussed ad nauseam. Some feel he should have been subbed out and let others play. Some feel as you do. One person reported he was trying to break a record. Many feel with the game well in hand, let some guys who don't get a chance to score take the opportunities. To let the same player keep shooting is like running up the score in a football game--continuing to throw downfield, etc. when the score is 70-0, which bumps up against the bounds of sportsmanship. Sportsmanship is in short supply these days. Why not err on the side of sportsmanship?

Any way, that is a short summary of the previous discussion.

It was a Varsity game right? That's the only game Varsity kids can play in. JV Kids get JV games to play.

Couldn't agree more. If it were any team but Scott it probably wouldn't even be an issue.

You're probably right. Everyone else seems to get it.

I hope your are kidding........i believe I read that mostly the JV was playing for bb. Not their all state all world d1 player looking for stats..........that is why you aren't hearing anything.

I also wish this was the case... not sure it is though. As offsides says... "Everyone else seems to get it". I do not understand how so many can still think this is about people "picking" on Scott... they do not see that others are not doing the same thing.

Two points I can make--but I am not asserting an opinion whether the allstar should have been allowed to continue to score.

I said in post #9 that an alternative is "to let some guys who don't usually score get an opportunity." That isn't necessarily JV players. There are boys who go to practice every day and work just as hard as the usual scorers. Some of these may be seniors who have been loyal to the program for 4 yrs but may not get to start. Why not give them a chance during their senior year to play in a position where they may get to take a shot on goal? This could be said for other players who play in positions that don't often get to shoot.

In support of letting a JV kid play. JV kids need exposure to Varsity play. It helps elevate their game and gets them use to the pressure of playing varsity competition, though in this case, with the game well in hand, the pressure would have been off. It's still good to let them mix it up with the varsity kids on their own team and compete against varsity players from the other team. It builds confidence in them and will help the team down the road.

Now I think I have done what I did not intend, add to the ad nauseam discussion. Sorry about that. :puke:
