Here is the official game report as provided to me from Rich Frommeyer who attended the game.

 

After several nice saves by Calvary and some near misses by Brossart in the opening seconds Gabe Roberts got the game winner in the 8th minute off a great pass from Jon Henn. Gabe made a dazzling shot from 14 yards out that left the keeper speechless in awe of his shot. Gabe returned the favor in the 10th frame when his pass to Jon Henn. Henn had a blistering left foot shot that scorched the net for the All State Insurance Goal of the Game.

 

In the 14th minute on a Calvary foul, the Mustang’s free kick by Dylan Geiman was a perfect volley into the box and it found Mark Goller’s foot and Mark tapped it in for the 3-0 lead and the call came from the bench for all hands on deck as most of the starters got to sit the rest of this one out. Four minutes later Nick Dierig got in on the action when Justin Schultz sent a cross ball to Nick’s laces that Dierig sent the into the netting for the 4-0 lead.

 

T.J. Moore got his first varsity goal of his career when Chase Hauke made a nice pass that T.J. buried from 12 yards out that hit the nylon for 5-nil in the 24th minute. Then two minutes later the Mustang’s Cody Chism sent a ball into the goal which made the score 6-0, which the Mighty Mustangs took to the half.

 

In the 48th minute Justin Rolf got his first varsity goal when Evan Berkemeyer sent a through ball that Justin bent into the goal for the 7-0 lead. In the 50th frame Jacob Frommeyer gets the assist when he chipped a ball to Evan Berkemeyer. Evan’s one touch blast was sent past the diving keeper for the 8-0 lead and the party was on.

 

The Mustangs finished out the scoring when Cody Chism sent the nail in the coffin past the keeper and the final goal of the game. The Mustangs had 25 shots, 20 on goal and 5 corner kicks. The Cougars had 2 shots and both were saved by Austin Zalac. Starter Jeff Paulin pulled out the lawn chair as no balls came his way in the 20 or so minutes that he played. Jeff and Austin Zalac combine on the shutout. The defense was great as they hardly allowed a ball passed the midfield.

 

The All Tournament Team consisted of Gabe Roberts and Mark Goller. The Most Valuable Player of the tournament was Jeff Paulin.

 

The Mustangs will host NCC at 5:00pm on Wednesday for the All A Sub-sectional game. The game will be played at Pendery Park.

Been discussed ad nauseam. Some feel he should have been subbed out and let others play. Some feel as you do. One person reported he was trying to break a record. Many feel with the game well in hand, let some guys who don't get a chance to score take the opportunities. To let the same player keep shooting is like running up the score in a football game--continuing to throw downfield, etc. when the score is 70-0, which bumps up against the bounds of sportsmanship. Sportsmanship is in short supply these days. Why not err on the side of sportsmanship?

Well said. Take your starters out (as many as you can). Regardless of the team or player... if one of them has the majority of the goals and you're winning you pull him.
