Beechwood 38 Newport Central Catholic 6 (JV)

Featured Replies

The Beechwood Tigers marched to a methodical win over the Thoroughbreds. Beechwood used their running game and added in a few passes by developing QB Dalton Everett to score in every quarter for the win. The Thoroughbreds used a lot of wildcat type offense as they try to find a QB with their JV starter being moved up to starting varsity. Here is how the scoring went:

First Quarter

6:30 BW Everett 17 yard pass to Trevor Soward; 2 pt. try no good ..... 6-0

0:20 BW Aiden Justice 68 yard run; Everett pass to Lucas Benson for 2 points ..... 14-0

Second Quarter

1:12 BW Justice 9 yard run; Everett run for 2 points ..... 22-0

0:00 NCC QB Job Freppon 67 yard Hail Mary defelection pass to John Hughes; 2 pt. try no good ..... 22-6

Third Quarter

5:28 BW Justice 66 yard punt return for TD; Everettt to Sowar for 2 points ..... 30-6

Fourth Quarter

6:18 BW Everett 5 yard run; Soward run for 2 ..... 38-6

Beechwood still not using the freshman kicker in JV games? I don't get it!

Although they didn't win, I was impressed by the Newcath JV team. A couple of their linemen are beasts. They would defiantly be an asset to the varsity line. They had a lot of Freshmen playing. The future looks bright up on the hill.

I realized they lost, but I was impressed with the way they played, for such a young team.

That is to a smaller school than NCC. I could understand your analysis if it was say SK or Dixie. I was told by someone that was there that NCC looked really bad? It just shocked me when I saw your post.:thumb:

Given the fact that most of Newcath's team were Freshman, they did well. Just my opinion. They are one class below NCC, but that big of a difference.

I see what your saying, but I feel the need to elaborate on my statement. NCC's JV team has lost 6 of their starters, 2 to injuries/ineligibility and 4 that moved up to play varsity only. One of those who is now the starting QB for the varsity. The Freshmen team has been moved up to fill the void. The Freshmen and JV players don't practice together. So my comment was in regards to this young team playing well together given the fact that they were just thrown together to field the JV squad. Not everyone knows the facts, so they make judgments on the team as they see them. I for one feel that they played well together. Ya, they lost but played well as a unit.

Raiderbird they are not smaller look at the khsaa two year ave NCC 382 Beechwood 372, one year report NCC 372 Beechwood 401.

I'm pretty sure onespiritedfan knew they lost, thanks for the elaboration. But again as was stated later on most of these boys have not plAyed one down with each other so please refrain from being so knowledgeable before knowing the whole story.

So who plays in the freshman game?

So who plays in the freshman game?

Frosh play in the Frosh games if it is a true Frosh game. True Frosh games are usually against the 5A and 6A schools. Games against small schools are sometimes Soph-Frosh games because some schools can't field JV and Frosh teams. Then there are true JV games in which some Frosh may need to play in. It is not like they are playing 25 games or anything. Usually there are maybe 5 JV games and maybe 7 Frosh or Soph-Frosh games.

Seeing the game in person, I expected a bit more from NCC....although at the time not realizing that alot of those kids were freshman. Beechwood dressed 16 kids I believe...3 of them are juniors, maybe 4. NCC dressed 30+ with several of them having good size. For Beechwood...Justice, Everett, and Soward did the work offensively with pretty good line play. On Defense Sherron (spelling?), Hermes dominated in the trenches, both of which are Juniors. NCC moved the ball at times and made stops on defense on occasion. Special teams hurt NCC. Just my opinion.

Beechwood did a great job, not saying that at all. 20 of NCC's players are Freshmen. The 2 big lineman are both sophomores. Of those on JV, only a few even get any playing time on varsity, usually kick-off our punt/return it extra point attempts (which have been few and far between so far this year).

Just a side note, NCC coaches played all their players in this game. It's not always about the win. Sure everyone wants to win, but these games are about the experience and teaching/learning. Like I said earlier, these kids don't routinely practice together and have list 6 of their starters, one of which was their QB, who is now the starting QB for the varsity. So, imo they played well together given the circumstances.
