Wouldn't comparing SK to Campbell Co be the same thing? Or Dixie etc.?

 

Just not understanding the Ryle comparison when Ryle is in a closed district and SK isn't.

 

None of the Boone Schools are worth moving to? Are you serious? You have an extremely high bias I feel. I say that mainly because in almost every thread you continue to just bash Boone County schools.

 

I don't bash Boone County Schools. I cite Boone County football programs as having similar opportunity for success as SK, but failing to do so.

Why do SK fans always compare to Ryle? If they aren't successful, why compare to them. I'm sure there are tons of unsuccessful programs across the state with similar enrollment. It's like SK fans are okay, as long as they are ahead of Ryle! Ryle may have other issues going on that SK doesn't. Who knows.

 

First of all thanks for making my point for me. Yes Ryle has different things going on. As far as comparing to Ryle, these schools have a nearly identical enrollment but if it makes you feel better substitute Dixie or Campbell County in there. The point I am trying to make is that a surge in population in Independence while a factor is not near the factor it's made out to be. It is not like SK's enrollment is so much larger than the other 6A schools.

 

Speaking of CC and DHS they both are seeing success with recent coaching changes. I really think Lickert is doing great things at CC. Is Campbell Counties success do to the number of students in their school? Yes to a small extant but not nearly to the magnitude of the coaching.

 

This is a thread about how a coaches plan turned around a program that until he got there had been pretty much awful. VOR stated that it really wasn't the coach but more about population growth. I disagreed with that and I gave you the closest possible school with a like enrollment. I am sure there are several schools with a close enrollment to SK that are not in this area but why would I use them to compare? They may have a whole different set of issues to deal with.

That is a very valid point as well. Sounds like the perfect storm for football in Independence.

I get that, but that's kinda my point. It just feels like SK fans are okay as long as they are better than the other bad teams in the area. I know T is a different animal, but I will use them as an example. They got so good that KY schools were not a challenge anymore (for a couple years). So instead of saying, I'm better than anyone around me, I can relax and maintain what I have and I'm good, they strived to be even better and went out and scheduled national powerhouses. They didn't want to get comfortable because that leads to complacency. I'm not saying that SK has to go out and schedule national powerhouses, I'm saying leave the other schools in NKY behind and strive to be better than just the other bad schools around you. Look forward, not backward.

 

Most think I'm on this mission to "expose" SK or drill them for doing wrong. That's not the case at all. I would love to see them compete for the state title every year with the big boys. I just think the culture and the way of thinking and the coddling of the kids are not going to get them there. I couldn't be more happy that they are playing a much better schedule next year. I just can't believe all the defense of the poor schedule over the last two years. Being 2-9 is not a reason to schedule a 2 year schedule of cupcakes. It's high school. Good classes come and go. Don't manipulate your schedule to make sure kids don't get their feelings hurt. Put teams on your schedule that you need to and are expected to compete with and kids will step up. We don't have to tailor a schedule to your team. We can't hold our kids hands all their life. No one in real life is going to tailor someone's work responsibilities based on them having a tough week at work.

Because uninformed folks are attributing SK success to enrollment.

 

I don't say enrollment, I say the transition of the types of kids SK is getting now vs the kids they were getting 10, 15, 20 years ago.

IMO, what you're missing is that building a program is a process. We are coming out of the middle and heading into the top third of the process. We don't care about Ryle, we care about SK. Jeff has a plan and is sticking to it.

 

If your program had been as bad as this one, you'd understand what it's like to have zero interest and have to build pride into something. You get kids excited and wanting to play by winning. Once you win and build trust, you advance to the next levels and eventually you compete at the highest levels possible....just not there yet. Working on it.

Doesn't help that none of the Boone programs are worth moving to. And you know darn well this is no issue at all in basketball. Kids transfer to neighboring schools without consequence all the time.

You are on record as saying Cooper hasn't sustained success since their state run. You made this argument in a previous thread by pulling the SK score from last year. Cooper already has equalled it's win total from last year and has more winnable games on their schedule. All I'm trying to say is if you're going to make an argument about programs sustaining winning ways, you cannot base your judgement off of one season.

 

On top of that, Ryle has had a few bad years but overall as a program they have been highly successful. The team that has been hurt the most from all of the Boone County Schools is Boone themselves.

 

And to say that open enrollment has nothing to do with success... Let's look at Dixie. They have had at least 4 kids over the past four years at that school that should have been playing for Ludlow. All of those kids have contributed and one still is in a very big way for them.

They are only 4a but you have been screaming from the top of your lungs to schedule HHS & Cov Cath who are currently 4A. New Cath ok they are 2A but they also hold a winning record over SK. The rest of the schools are 5&6A programs I believe.

I agree with what you're saying here. Population is a factor, but you also have to establish a mentality that you're there to develop a winning program and kids will buy into that. Marksberry has done a fantastic job with SK and because of the attitude he and his staff has established, they are consistently a top 3 team in NKY.

Holy Cross was coming off of a state championship when they and SK scheduled each other I believe. So at the time I can see why SK would do it. It didn't look like a cupcake game then.
