There are 5 High Schools in Boone County.and 7 in Kenton County.

Kenton has 7 public high schools?

Why is it enough said? Ryle has an almost identical enrollment as SK. Why would they need more students to accomplish the same success.

I am not saying demographics is the only reason. I agreed that Marksberry has done a good job. I think Ram's initial post here makes good points. I do think demographics is the most important factor. If Marksberry did everything exactly the same way and Independence grew by 10% over the past 10-15 years, SK would be the same program they were the first half of Marksberry's tenure.

Lets apply that logic to Beechwood and Highlands then since they are landlocked and close to full enrollment. That would mean that both programs are headed for decline since they are no longer in growing communities and don't have capacity for expansion. Oh wait, that's already happening!

The difference though is that Cooper is a new school and has closed enrollment, so the only players it pulled from Ryle and Conner are the players that live in Coopers school district. Unlike SK where kids from all,over the county and in different school districts can still choose to go to SK as well as SK has been around for a long long time, so them building their program is just building from where it's been instead of building from scratch.

Population growth has been pretty explosive in Boone County as well. How are those large school programs doing? Connor and SK both graduated D1 quarterbacks. Who was better prepared for continued success?

 

Can't compare Boone and Kenton. How many Boone schools and how many Kenton? And doesn't Kenton have open enrollment and isn't Boone pretty tight on not allowing kids to change schools.

Doesn't help that none of the Boone programs are worth moving to. And you know darn well this is no issue at all in basketball. Kids transfer to neighboring schools without consequence all the time.

Why do SK fans always compare to Ryle? If they aren't successful, why compare to them. I'm sure there are tons of unsuccessful programs across the state with similar enrollment. It's like SK fans are okay, as long as they are ahead of Ryle! Ryle may have other issues going on that SK doesn't. Who knows.

Everything you mentioned has been that way since I went to school in the 80's. Not sure what your point is.

 

They both have a formula for success. How long has Marksberry been there? Do you really think the growth and transition of Independence from country and farmland to middle class suburbs had nothing to do with the success? In fact the majority of the reason?? Do you really believe that? They are getting different types of kids now, because of the growth. That's a good thing! Why wouldn't you just embrace that and be happy with it. Scott is coming back on the map as well. Did Marksberry help them too. When I played, SK and Scott were considered Bye weeks. That's not the case anymore.

You are attributing SK success to enrollment size.! There are plenty of putrid 6A programs, some of them are here in NKy.

None of the Boone Schools are worth moving to? Are you serious? You have an extremely high bias I feel. I say that mainly because in almost every thread you continue to just bash Boone County schools.

Yes, no issues with other comparison. I typically use Ryle because I see them as our biggest rival in the district (historically) although Campbell has been the recent nemesis.

 

You can talk all you want about open enrollment in Kenton County but Simon Kenton and Dixie are full. Scott has seats. If you want to open enroll at SK, you had better have a great reason and be a stellar student or they WILL NOT take you.
