As I've said before, everybody sleeping on John Hardin and thinking/wondering if the empire is falling......nope. In their new realignment, it will sound like a familiar Ludacris song, beginning with "Move.......................get out the way."

Harry, have to agree with you. That realignment & the young talent is a recipe for a good run

I think they would have the recipe for the same runs had they been put back in 5A, but 4A just needs to head for shelter.

One game doesnt mean everything, but it doesnt paint a great picture for WCentral in the near future in this rivalry for the west in the New 4a side of the bracket.

I agree with you guys that JHardin would have continued to compete with BG for west side of the old 5A bracket. And I still say they host the Purples the day after Thanksgiving in the west 5A semifinal game.

That was a kind score too. JH played everybody in the 2nd half. It was over at half 28-0 I believe. WC didn't look great too me. Very average qb who threw it up for grabs to much!! Several INT in the game. Jh had several freshman playing as well. Future is bright. Just have to grow up.

Ed, is that freshman the real deal?

Their freshmen? Yes. THAT freshman? Hell yes.

Witherspoon right? I think that's his name.

Put it this way; there isn't a team in the state he wouldn't have started/played a solid role for last year as an 8th grader...and, that includes all of the teams in the finals. I can think of how many times I've ever said that about a MS kid. Never.

Central has next year to make good. Then, the cliff. At least that's what's gonna happen unless they can start developing the heck out of what they have.

DF, do they need a change at the coaching level of the JV and Frosh teams or just cant seem to put it together?

It's very interesting the way they will use the Witherspoon kid in the future. They are going to use him the way they used Patrick Anderson with him playing QB and Free Safety. Look for Witherspoon to be the JV QB next year and start at Free Safety next year as a Sophomore. When he is a Junior he will be the starting QB and starting Free Safety for two years. Of note is this is his first time ever playing QB to my knowledge so he is raw right now. After playing QB on the Freshman and JV team this year I think he will mature into a very good QB.

Coaching change isn't the issue, especially since they just made a sweeping change to all coaches at all levels. I believe there is one member of the entire staff still on from last year at the high school level, and I'm pretty sure they turned over at the middle school level as well.

The issue is as I have discussed in other threads on it is the box the county has put them in district-wise. Central is suffering from declining enrollment and a decent amount of the population they do have doesn't really care about American football. People are transferring or declining to ever put their kids in the system and that has accelerated since South Warren opened. I do believe that they had a coaching issue at the middle school level in the past that had to be resolved, and that was done during the offseason. I think given enough time the current staff they have will do a good job, but that's only if they stay, and I remain convinced that we are on the negative side of 50/50 for that longterm.

Bottom line, they're just not all that talented below the current junior class. I think we'll see more classes like last year's senior group where you had tremendous talent among a few guys at the top, but you need more than 4 top shelf talents in a class of 9 to win in high school football. You need depth, and that takes numbers. And unless something fundamentally changes in policies of this county, I believe we're looking at a generation or more before nature corrects itself. It's that bad.

DFire, this is an excellent synopsis of the Dragons current state. Looking long term, I think the best scenario would be to drop to 3A and sustain at that level. I agree there is/will still be very talented kids coming through, but not the numbers of old.

So soccer is big in the Dragons district?

Most definitely. Soccer team is usually talented but wildly undisciplined which costs them against the other schools not named East. This year is an uptick.

On the rest I agree, a trip down to 3A would suit them in the coming years. I don't know if it's possible they'll drop that low though. They're down about 175 students from where they were in the last years before South Warren, but transfers and avoidance or not, it's going to be difficult to envision them shedding another 125 or so.
