Question About Coal & Allison Grimes

Featured Replies

My mailbox is continuously bombarded with pamphlets talking about how Grimes is the 2nd coming of Satan because she's anti-coal industry. Hear non-stop radio ads saying much of the same.

My question is simple: Why should I, as a NKY voter, have even the slightest concern over what Grimes' or anyone else's stance on coal is?

The non-stop garbage is making me seriously consider voting for her just as a big "screw you" to the idiots who keep spamming my radio and mailbox.

Coal Revenue pays for about a quarter of a Billion Dollars of the Kentucky Budget each year.

Either services provided would have to be cut or taxes raised to offset the loss in coal revenue to the state if Coal went away.

Okay, a couple of follow ups to that: 1) Couldn't that revenue be replaced with other industries other than coal? and 2) how does that impact me?

When you say services provided, does that mean less construction on roads? If so, sign me up!! :D

1) If they could get those other industries we'd already have them in the state, IMO.

2) Paying more state income, property (vehicle and land) and sales tax would all be possibilities.

3) Electricity prices could also soar if coal fired power plants have to close.

Roads (Think less snow removal resources available), Emergency Services, Money to local schools and colleges, basically anything that Frankfort pays for or helps pay for "Could" be impacted with a $250 million loss to the budget.

That's $250,000,000 taxes that ARE NOT paid by the citizenry but by Big (Coal) Business

I'm not saying anything here against Grimes or McConnell just answering your question BTW.

IMHO it sounds like mustang fan is a heavy democrat leaning type and has no intention of voting for Mitch. Just my opinion . I can't fathom how any Kentuckian can ask " why should I care about coal" ?

Isn't there a saying that goes something like " the best thing about a democracy is the people get the govt they deserve " or something like that ?

Good luck generating enough wind to operate the windmill on top of your house to supply your electric needs.

Go nuclear.

Couldn't be more wrong. I'm a Libertarian, albeit I tend to lean to right on almost every issue. I've voted for Mitch every single election. Can't stand him, and I'm sick and tired of getting crap about Grimes and coal shoved down my throat.

Not to mention the 12,000+ coal jobs in the state. Mostly high paying jobs at that.

Go nuclear.

Would love that but try getting that through anywhere.
