September 8, 201412 yr While the rest of college football is preparing for their thrid game UC still is gearing up for game 1. Was this intentional? A scheduling problem when the conference imploded 2 years ago? What gives? It is really like they do not even exist as focus is all on teams that are actually playing.
September 8, 201412 yr And they're going to go through that entire late-starting schedule and don't play UCF this year. Nice job not scheduling what was likely to be the premier game for the league this season. Although, East Carolina at UC on a Thursday night in November will be solid as well and given all UCF lost, that game could really be the one for the American title if ECU is as good as advertised. But yeah... really weird that they don't start playing until Week 3.
September 8, 201412 yr Other AAC teams have played multiple games. I'm wondering if it has something do with now using PBS for games due to renovation at Nippert.
September 8, 201412 yr Author Other AAC teams have played multiple games. I'm wondering if it has something do with now using PBS for games due to renovation at Nippert. I also wonder if the Reds can keep them from playing at home at PBS if they have a home game that day. Of course road games would still be available.

September 8, 201412 yr Look at todays paper and you will get your answers. UC had a game scheduled against Slippery Rock at the end of August that was cancelled in order for them to be able to play a game against Miami, Fl sometime in October.
September 8, 201412 yr It seems like the AAC should have interceded and rearranged the conference schedule so Cincinnati could have played a game in one of the first two weeks. Obviously they can't make those changes late in the summer, but I'm guessing the Slippery Rock/Miami deal was known at least as early at this spring.
September 8, 201412 yr That is a really good point. The conference has enough trouble being considered legit as a football conference as it is. I've really been struggling as to why the league wouldn't have made sure that UC and UCF played each other. They're both likely to pummel most of the teams on their schedule and that was likely to get the most TV attention of the season.
September 8, 201412 yr I...get the most TV attention of the season. This was my thought as well. With the league moving to divisions next year, the scheduling will be a little more set in stone. With the 11-team league this year, I would have thought the TV folks would have been forcing the AAC to schedule a Central Florida/Cincinnati game.

Well that was a good trade off for one of the weeks.
September 8, 201412 yr Author The Bearcats were to open Aug. 30 against Stony Brook, but that game was canceled last year when the Bearcats added a marquee game at Miami (Fla.) for Oct. 11, 2014. With no game scheduled for this past Saturday (Sept. 6), that left UC with two vacant weekends to begin the season. UC tried to have one of its American Athletic Conference games moved to the first weekend, but that failed to transpire. Former UC athletic director Whit Babcock, now AD at Virginia Tech, recently told The Enquirer that he takes the blame for UC having two open dates to begin 2014. "Once we get started it'll be water under the bridge, but it's a shame we had to do this," Tuberville said. Here is the article piece JOAT was referring to. Traded Stony Brook and got Miami Fla.
September 8, 201412 yr Author Still not really what you want to see happen. Bad enough they play in the AAC (no exposure), they do not play the first two weekends (no exposure), then top it off by not playing UCF (would have at least been a televised game).

Bad enough they play in the AAC (no exposure), they do not play the first two weekends (no exposure), then top it off by not playing UCF (would have at least been a televised game). Nothing to do about being in the AAC. That's where they are. Perfectly acceptable to be upset with the league's front office about not playing UCF but that's exactly why the sacrifice of not playing in the first two weeks is worthwhile. Nobody was going to talk about a week one game against Stony Brook anyway. But someone will pick up that game at Miami for TV and it'll be huge for UC if they can go down there and beat them (which they're totally capable of doing).
