The Bryan Station Defenders travel across town to play the Lexington Catholic Knights Friday night at Joseph K Ford Stadium.

Both teams have traveled similar roads this year - an easy first week win followed by losses at the Republic Bank Bluegrass Bowl and disappointing losses in the last minutes this past Friday.

In terms of district standings and post-season seedings the game may not have direct impact but its the last game before district play starts and both teams will want to roll into that period of the schedule with a win. Coach Mark Perry for the Knights will also be looking for his first home victory since becoming the Knights head coach. And Bryan Station may smell Knight blood in the water with the loss to the Generals and want to deliver a Fayette public school 1-2 punch to the Knights.

Lexington Catholic pulled out a win in last season's game that was at Bryan Station with a score of 28-21. Knight Senior Reese Ryan threw for 3 touchdowns, 208 yards and had no interceptions against the Defenders. Knight senior DB Braxton Couch had a team high 8 tackles in the game. Graduated Defender QB Bo Johnson threw for 3 touchdowns, 250 yards and 1 interception. Senior Carl Walker had 150 yards receiving and two TD catches in the game.

Who wins and why?

I'm picking Catholic but this one could really go either way. I think the Knights will be able to clean up their penalty and turnover problems this week and that leads to the victory. Also the Knights have really shown the ability to run the football this season with Jaylen Jones which should help keep Station's offense off the field.

I agree with Knights, if they can keep the ball on the ground via Jaylen Jones and keep Station's offense off the field I think that's their key to victory. However, I think Station finds a way to get their athletes the ball in space and win a close game.

Station by 3

Great insight Bluegrasscard. This should be a great game.

I will go with Station. After watching them and how athletic they are, if they can act like they have been there before when they score a TD, then they should win. Hopefully no silly penalties by either teams from undisciplined play. Can't speak for LexCath, but Station had their fair share last week that were somehow overlooked. This week won't be the case. Discipline = win for Station!

I think more than anything for LC they have to stop beating themselves. Penalties and costly turnovers have hurt an offense that is doing pretty good in the air and on the ground. I'm more concerned with the defense and the poor tackling, late hits, and blown assignments. Coming into the season I knew we were thin on both side ps but that C.Mitchell injury really really hurt us. On offense I think Reese Ryan gets into a groove early, then the defense finishes the deal in the fourth quarter......

LC 31

Bryan Station 27

I think catholic has to prove themselves defensively, station has a more potent offensive than LafAyette. No way Catholic holds them under 35, Catholic will have to out gun them.

Bryan Station 42

LC 28

Not sure what you mean, pls explain...Station is either going to be athletic and undisciplined or not very athletic and disciplined...:thumb:

I think what you will see is a Station win because they are too darn athletic and fast for LexCath imo

It won't be the latter anytime soon. They are loaded down there. With that said, then maybe Station can't win. :idunno:

Should be a fantastic game though. And fast like you said.

I think what he is talking about is all the dumb penalties Bryan Station kept getting for excessive celebration after touchdowns that came back to hurt them. When they went up two scores only to have 30 yards of penalties (excessive celebration and taunting), give HHS the ball on around the 45 and allow them to score a quick touchdown on a short field to put them right back into the game.

Bryan Station has some very good athletes on the team and have the ability to score on quick strikes. They were given some gifts against HHS with some sloppy play by HHS that gave them some very short fields for scores. One was on the one yard line, one on about the 34 and one around the 45 if I remember correctly. If LC does not give them these easy opportunities and makes them drive 70-80 yards for scores, I think they win. You keep Bryan Station in close games and they tend to self destruct.

Coaching? Lack of respect for coaches?

I'm going to say it'll be a close, hard fought game.

Bryan Station might smell blood in the water after Lafayette beat Catholic last week and have some confidence after playing them close last season, but Lexington Catholic is still one of the best programs in the state and you'd think they're the kind of team that will have too much pride to just roll over for anyone.
