Houk has obviously regressed from last year. Defense is stout. Wolford is still Wolford, which is baffling because of his football acumen and stature. Hopefully they get better by the playoffs. One thing that seems to be a glaring difference between glaser coached teams and wolford coached teams besides attention to detail, is special teams.

 

I am baffled by the naysayers of Will Wolford. I have seen every game that he has coached at ST X. You may remember that he did beat Manual on a last second play to Charles Walker last year along with beating Cincinnati St X. Time management? Against Bowling Green, he had the right call in, and the player took a sack. In the NFL, the QB could of been ruled outside the tackles and incomplete pass called so the NFL is a different game. Does Coach Beattie get blamed for not teaching holding on to the ball when a WR fumbles against Carmel, IN? Will played in Super Bowls and we thought the defense had saved the day with an interception in the end zone and the BG WR came up with the winning score.

Special Teams? Attention to detail? St X has 9 kickoffs so far with 8 as touchbacks average 59.6 yards. 6-6 on PATs and 38.5 average on punting with no blocked punts. Opponents are averaging 1.6 yards per punt return. What games are you watching?

 

Does anybody realize that the Catholic School athletic assn (CSAA) the feeder program for Trinity, X, Desales and has lost over 400 players in the last four years and maybe, just maybe, that James Quick and Jason Hatcher and Ryan White and Deonte Clyborne and Trevyon Purcell aren't walking through the door?

 

Maybe the fact that X and Trinity is 3-3 combined this year and 13-11 last year will remind you. Like Dennis Green said, you are what your record says you are.

^ I hear you JR!!! Ii agree things are not as bad as the current "perception". I think we all just want to see X return to the days of realistically competing for a State Championship. I think they can do it, just have to prove it on the field!!!!!! When I mean "compete" I don't mean loose second or third round of playoffs...... We have done that before !!!!! Time to get over the hump and the best way is to start improving and demonstrating this against good competition....

Expectation control was needed when Coach Wolford was hired. It is not easy to take NFL knowledge and translate that to high school, things are obviously different. Coach Wolford is adjusting and it will take time; it's a process.

 

I agree 100% with the CSAA, comment. There are just know the number of kids playing in the CSAA as there were 10 years or even 5 years ago.

The Tigers will see action again this Friday at 7:30 at Brother Thomas More Stadium against Fairdale. After a heartbreaking loss last Friday in Bowling Green, the Bulldogs should offer a nice rebound opportunity for the Tigers. If history repeats itself, St. X should have plenty of opportunities to fix what went wrong last week against Bowling Green.
