Be patient, he's a very nice player who still has time to get noticed.

With the emergence of so many up tempo spread offenses the athletic demands for all positions , including OL keep escalating. Olmstead's particular skill set is probably better suited for power running offenses rather than the up tempo spread offenses. His blocking at the LOS is elite , whether pass or run blocking. It is his secondary level blocking, more than 5 yds from the LOS, that has the FBS folks concerned. Several D2 schools have already indicated they will offer. He also has strong interest from Patriot league schools.

Olmstead also played with a lower back injury last year and had to wear a back brace and get electrical stimulation before games to get on the field. This hurt is Jr. year tape. He is 100 % health now and his level play of reflects it.

There's a thread about this a page or two back, but I'll give my two cents on a few that I know of:

Cov Cath

Sam Murrer- OT (Sr)

Great size, motor and leader. Turned into a mauler. Offers from WKU, Miami, Oh, Ohio U and others.

Jake Stiens - DE (Jr)

Very fast off the ball- not huge, but strong and quick. Great motor.

Chandler Brooks- DE (Sr)

Same as above - A little slower than Jake but stronger.

Beechwood

Brayden Combs- OT/DE (Jr)

Physically looks like a Frosh- in college. Great explosion. Great baseball player

Dixie

Branden Johnson-OT/DE (Sr)

Good motor, strong and agile which should be expected from a state wrestling champ- I think he's a better DL than OL which what I'm guessing he was recruited for.

I know there are a lot more, but that's all I have time to comment about right now- got to get to work! ;)

I expected a little more from Brandon Johnson against CCH. He was lined up across from a kid that weighs 200 pounds and did nothing. Just about zero pass rush.

Totally agree I wasn't impressed.

On the defensive side of the ball, Beechwood's DT Riley McKown is in the mix. Size, strength and speed at DT.

Please. Doubled the entire game and laid out the QB after splitting guard tackle gap on 2nd offensive play of game.

How many tackles did he have ?

Jr. Maleek Lawrence at NewCath, will soon be mentioned with Brady Thacker & Jack Sutkamp up on the "hill"..

He should have got a flag on that play QB had already thrown the ball.

Incorrect- as usual

The goals of an interior DL:

1. Stop the run, cause the backs to run lateral instead of verticle. Make them make the first cut in the backfield.

2. Clog the middle. Similar as the first, don't let the OL get to second level. Take as many OL out of the run blocking scheme as possible.

3. Pressure the QB. Force him to make throws on the run or out of the pocket. Make sure he looks for you EVERY play. Hit him as many time as necessary to do this.

4. Make the play. Make the sack, tackle for loss or tackle as available. Hopefully if your taking out 2-3 OL, the LB will do the cleanup.

A good DL does this.

He wasn't doubled the entire game. The Colonels run a zone scheme. There were times he was scooped, not doubled the entire game. Regardless, he still didn't do much. Atleast didn't control the line like I would have expected.
