Exciting game. Wildcats went up 14-0 before Mason County was able to get on the board. 22-19 at half; Wildcats extended the lead to 28-19 in the third. Royals scored with a little over 5 minutes to play, then punched in a QB sneak with 17 seconds left to seal the deal.

 

Royals outgained the Wildcats on the ground; Newport was effective chewing up clock with the run and the pass; went 10-17 on third-down. Room for improvement tackling for the Royals for sure.

 

Effective game by Royals' backup QB Bradley Boone; 2 TDs through the air and with the game-winner on the ground.

 

This game in all likelihood would have had a different outcome had the Wildcats not shot themselves in the foot with 100+ yards in penalties; especially late.

 

Not the prettiest game I've ever seen but it sure was fun. Shout-out to family friend TE Drew Spangler; on the receiving end of Mason County's first score of the season.:thumb:

Coach Buchanan and his staff continue to do an outstanding job with what they have and making needed adjustments. The tackling of both teams left a lot to be desired, arm tackling straight up,jumping on backs, players looked tentative to tackle low with head and shoulders(maybe a sign of the times). Again loved the free admission, they still got my mountain dew and popcorn money

Agreed. Outside of King and Buchanan, lots of trying to tackle high and that's not going to be effective specially as small as the Royals are this season.

 

Nice to get the win; but still lots of work to do.

Bradley Boone showed on Friday night he has a nice touch on the deep ball. The pass he threw to Cameron Frame was pretty. Would have been better if Frame had held onto it. I am sure he catches it 9 out of ten times.

 

The arm tackling/tackling up high by Mason was a issue in the small portion of the game played on Friday for Mason.

No, I was not able to come back for the Saturday night game.

I had a pass at the games in Mt Sterling so I took them in.

Mason Co is expected to be a solid 3a team. Is Newport going to be a factor in 2a and possibly challenge NCC or did they just play over there head or is Mason a little overrated ??

I don't know a great deal about the two teams, but Mason County is without their starting QB. Sounds like his backup performed quite well.

im pretty sure Newports Nose Gaurd #74 Breandon Johnson would of made a big difference if he had played.
