August 21, 201412 yr I have had Windstream for many, many years with a cost of 44.99 for high speed internet and a 5.95 charge for basic local phone service(which I don't use), that service raised three months ago to 14.50, making my total bill around 62.00. Is this still a good price? What are some comparable prices and deals? Have been told DirectTV and cable bundles are higher.
August 21, 201412 yr I think that it depends on what "high speed internet" means in your case and what the cost and speed of the alternatives in your area are. My provider is Cox Communications and I think our bill for basic digital cable and a fast internet service is around $80/mo. We could probably subscribe to Verizon FIOS when they run one of their specials for about the same and maybe get a little faster internet connection, but I am satisfied with the service that we have. My family would not be satisfied with DSL. We have an Amazon Fire connected to one TV and a Google Chromecast attached to the other for streaming video. It is not unusual for three of us to be surfing the web on laptops or tablets while a movie is being streamed from Netflix or Amazon Prime.
August 21, 201412 yr I have Cincinnati Bell internet service and it sucks but because of where I am, I'm not sure I can get any other provider. $39.99/month If anyone else lives in southern Campbell County, let me know if you have a different provider.
August 21, 201412 yr I have cable internet through Comcast. It's lightning fast and I pay for the highest available. I work from home a lot, we use streaming media a lot, and in the evenings have 4+ devices connected to it often.
August 21, 201412 yr I recently switch from Time Warner to Cincinnati Bell Fioptics due to the crappy quality of Time Warner's internet. I couldn't keep a wireless signal in my house. I used multiple routers, and nothing worked. With Fioptics, I pay $50 a month for 20megs and router rental. For home phone, I use Ooma, which is about $3.25 per month for local and long distance. I haven't had an issue yet with Fioptics outside of their customer service. My first bill was over $400, because they entered my activation date incorrectly, plus they didn't give me their promotion price. I've been going back and forth with them for over 2 weeks now, and I still haven't been able to get this resolved.
August 21, 201412 yr I believe you are in the Bracken/Mason area? Try Altius Broadband out of Flemingsburg. They have repeaters on most Bracken & Robertson water towers. If you are "in a holler" it might not work, but we have used them for years and have had good service. I believe our bill is $37/month.

Time warner is horrible for Wi-Fi You have to keep resetting the stupid router, can't stand it. Unfortunately we had Zoomtown (my wife works from home so work pays for it) but even with a business connection, zoomtown was slower than it was suppsed to be for what we were paying and what we were promised so we switched to Time Warner which was cheaper and a lot LOT faster, but the big issue is having to keep resetting the router, we just got a new one from Time Warner 2 weeks ago and that didn't fix the problem. I hate it.

Mine(windstream) has landline sevice thatI don't use for 14.00 on top of the 44.99 internet bill

Do you also pay to have a landline phone that you never use in that 39.99 charge or is that just straight high speed internet?
August 21, 201412 yr Do you also pay to have a landline phone that you never use in that 39.99 charge or is that just straight high speed internet? Straight up internet. We got rid of our land line last year.
August 21, 201412 yr Author Straight up internet. We got rid of our land line last year. Windstream's charge is the same, you can't get rid of landline, it is part of it. They've said it has to do with the government and new regulations and surcharges

I hate it. I found with Time Warner, I had to keep the security settings at the lowest possible setting for my Apple products to connect. We had Zoomtown for about 11 years with zero issues. I just got to the point where it wasn't cutting it with the multiple devices connecting to it along with trying to stream movies. I made the switch to TWC, and then as soon as Fioptics made it to my area, I switched.

I hate it. I thought that was just an issue at our house. At least once a week I have to reset the modem and router to get it to work properly. I love it the connection when it's working. We don't have cable/satelite but have Roku's on two tv's and my daughters are constantly streaming youtube etc on their ipads and have no problems. I pay $44.95 for 30 megs. I did just get a new charge of 4.95 for modem lease fee on last bill I have never gotten in the last 7 years.
